Green
----------------------------------------Levies ‘Will Add £200 To Energy Bills’ Date: 21/11/17 British Gas claims the cost of funding a switch to green energy and supporting poor families will add £200 to everyone’s bills next year. The company says it would be a fairer option to shift the cost from bills to income tax or other forms of taxation. The proposals were outlined by Ian Conn, the boss of parent company, Centrica, who is calling for fundamental changes to bills. The cost of Government schemes to support a shift away from fossil fuels and boost household energy efficiency is highly contentious. There is a cost in subsidising the building of new wind farms and solar installations, which are guaranteed high prices for their electricity. https://www.thegwpf.com/green-levies-will-add...f45ef-4121a895e1-36455853 |

Now we may be getting somewhere
Fast! The missing link has been found: A giant Elon Musk Powerpack built in South Australia in slightly less than 100 days with the capacity to store wind farm energy for 30,000 homes just started to supply power to the electricity grid on Thursday, November 30, 2017, during peak demand hours. We're on the road to be able to utilize wind energy even when the wind doesn't blow ..... |

That's one way Little Mermaid..
----------------------------------------We need more of these... https://www.fhc.co.uk/en/power-stations/dinorwig-power-station/ This is the UK's National Grid's biggest "batteries" Water is pumped from the lower lake to the top of the mountain with surplus electricity when demand is low (Wind Turbines) . When the National Grid cannot meet demand Dinorwig can go from 0 to 1,320 MW in 12 seconds literally on tap until the top lake is exhausted Initially built to meet the National Grid Peak demand it now runs throughout the day at lower power output ...as the UK's Electricity Supply no longer has any spare headroom ![]() |

From the Runtime Milestone Thread:
150 years since 16th November 2004 Congratulations, David Autumns Very interesting concept in all of its logic and simplicity (in theory), indeed. However, you may need to have some topography backing it up. It looks as if it could be made profitable within a reasonable span of years. Are there any plans to repeat the success in the UK? You shouldn't have a poem for bjdbest, by any chance? Or one of your astonishing photos? |

16,000 Additional Wind Turbines Required to Power British Electric Car Fleet
----------------------------------------Wind farms would need to ‘cover whole of Scotland’ to power Britain’s electric vehicles SCOTLAND would need to be entirely covered by wind farms in order to power all of Britain’s electric cars, according to a leading academic. By PAULA MURRAY, EXCLUSIVE PUBLISHED: 00:01, Sun, Oct 29, 2017 Jack Ponton, emeritus professor of engineering at Edinburgh University, said another 16,000 turbines would be required in order to replace petrol and diesel cars with electric vehicles. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has pledged to phase out the internal combustion engine by 2032 – eight years ahead of the rest of the UK. But Prof Ponton said that, even if the issues of power generation and charging points were sorted out, the National Grid could simply not cope with the increased demand. He said: “It is a nice idea as electric cars are much more efficient, cleaner and actually simpler devices than the current internal combustion engine vehicles. “Technically, it is an excellent idea. But the problem starts when you begin to think, ‘Where are you going to get the energy to run them?’. “I’ve seen three different estimates for the amount of new generating capacity that we would need if were going to have all the cars in Britain running on electricity. “The most detailed calculation says we’d be looking at five Hinkley nuclear stations to run this. It would be the best way, the most efficient way to get electricity because nuclear power stations can run 90 per cent of the time. “If you want to do this with wind turbines, you are talking about 16,000 more wind turbines, four times as many as we have at the moment, and I’ve estimated that would occupy some 90,000 square kilometres, which is approximately the size of Scotland.” https://wattsupwiththat.com/2017/10/30/16000-...itish-electric-car-fleet/ … |

We have reversible hydro-electric plants in Croatia since 1984: Funny, KLiK, the link David Autumns provided states that the Dinorwig Power Station was fully commissioned in 1984. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velebit_Pumped_Storage_Power_Plant So it's not a new technology... ![]() Could there have been some cooperation between the UK and the former Yugoslavia about a project/tchnology like this? |

The Good Energy Con
----------------------------------------December 4, 2017 But what they also don’t explain to customers is just what all of this precious renewable energy is actually costing. They do not give any figures of MWh sales, but based on their declared figures of 71000 customers and electricity revenue of £55m, we are probably looking at about 426 GWh. Using their mix of solar, wind and bio, the subsidy costs paid via Renewable Obligation Certificates would amount to £23.6m in a full year. These costs are of course not paid by Good Energy’s customers, but by all electricity users. If all of the cost was actually added to Good Energy bills, they would rise by 43%. https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com...od-energy-con/#more-31125 |
