eso no just a fine cover story that is not about me it is about us and that includes you And I suppose ALL these (among many others) are all part of the conspiracy? The National Academy of Sciences: The compelling case that climate change is occurring and is caused in large part by human activities is based on a strong, credible body of evidence, says Advancing the Science of Climate Change, one of the new reports. While noting that there is always more to learn and that the scientific process is never "closed," the report emphasizes that multiple lines of evidence support scientific understanding of climate change. The core phenomenon, scientific questions, and hypotheses have been examined thoroughly and have stood firm in the face of serious debate and careful evaluation of alternative explanations. "Climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for — and in many cases is already affecting — a broad range of human and natural systems," the report concludes. It calls for a new era of climate change science where an emphasis is placed on "fundamental, use-inspired" research, which not only improves understanding of the causes and consequences of climate change but also is useful to decision makers at the local, regional, national, and international levels acting to limit and adapt to climate change. Seven cross-cutting research themes are identified to support this more comprehensive and integrative scientific enterprise. The American Geophysical Union: The Earth's climate is now clearly out of balance and is warming. Many components of the climate system-including the temperatures of the atmosphere, land and ocean, the extent of sea ice and mountain glaciers, the sea level, the distribution of precipitation, and the length of seasons-are now changing at rates and in patterns that are not natural and are best explained by the increased atmospheric abundances of greenhouse gases and aerosols generated by human activity during the 20th century. Global average surface temperatures increased on average by about 0.6¡C over the period 1956-2006. As of 2006, eleven of the previous twelve years were warmer than any others since 1850. The observed rapid retreat of Arctic sea ice is expected to continue and lead to the disappearance of summertime ice within this century. Evidence from most oceans and all continents except Antarctica shows warming attributable to human activities. American Association for the Advancement of Science (pdf): The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society. House of Commons Science and Technology Committee (pdf): In addition, insofar as we have been able to consider accusations of dishonesty—for example, Professor Jones’s alleged attempt to “hide the decline”— we consider that there is no case to answer. Within our limited inquiry and the evidence we took, the scientific reputation of Professor Jones and CRU remains intact. We have found no reason in this unfortunate episode to challenge the scientific consensus as expressed by Professor Beddington, that “global warming is happening [and] that it is induced by human activity”. American Chemical Society: Careful and comprehensive scientific assessments have clearly demonstrated that the Earth’s climate system is changing rapidly in response to growing atmospheric burdens of greenhouse gases and absorbing aerosol particles (IPCC, 2007). There is very little room for doubt that observed climate trends are due to human activities. The threats are serious and action is urgently needed to mitigate the risks of climate change. American Meteorological Society (pdf): Indeed, strong observational evidence and results from modeling studies indicate that, at least over the last 50 years, human activities are a major contributor to climate change. Direct human impact is through changes in the concentration of certain trace gases such as carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, and water vapor, known collectively as greenhouse gases. American Physical Society (pdf): The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now. Joint statement by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, American Geophysical Union, American Institute of Biological Sciences, American Meteorological Society, American Society of Agronomy, American Society of Plant Biologists, American Statistical Association, Association of Ecosystem Research Centers, Botanical Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, Ecological Society of America, Natural Science Collections Alliance, Organization of Biological Field Stations, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Society of Systematic Biologists, Soil Science Society of America, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research: Observations throughout the world make it clear that climate change is occurring, and rigorous scientific research demonstrates that the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are the primary driver. These conclusions are based on multiple independent lines of evidence, and contrary assertions are inconsistent with an objective assessment of the vast body of peer-reviewed science. Moreover, there is strong evidence that ongoing climate change will have broad impacts on society, including the global economy and on the environment. |

What Happened to All the Hurricanes, Al? http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/what-happened-to...canes-al/?singlepage=true Here is yet another example of why I truly hate what is transpiring in this thread. So much of what is being said (and quoted) is disparaging and wrong. Many of the people posting in this thread show extreme biases that prevent debate and discourse. They care only about their opinion. This quote above and the article referenced are yet another example. The article is written by an American for Americans and about Americans. There is no attempt to look elsewhere at the people of Mexico, Cuba, Belize, Bermuda or Canada; countries where devastating hurricanes have made landfall THIS YEAR. But no, the author once again writes about America and Americans, as if there is no where else in the world that matters. So, why doesn't the rest of the world just throw open their arms and welcome all Americans. The answer is that there are too many Americans that don't even acknowledge the existence of any one else in the world. America is about America but America is not about the world. So hurricane Igor hits Newfoundland: "This is the worst storm this town has ever seen and this is the most damage we've ever seen.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/...struction/article1717836/ But if you are a biased American journalist, there have not been any major hurricanes since 2004. But a lie is not a lie if American journalism says its true, I guess. Thanks for not caring. |

So hurricane Igor hits Newfoundland: "This is the worst storm this town has ever seen and this is the most damage we've ever seen.â Looks like you're just as good at quoting things that fit your agenda. Maybe the quote should read "This is the worst storm this town has seen lately and this is the most damage we've seen lately." September 9, 1775: The Newfoundland Hurricane of 1775 killed over 4,000 in Newfoundland. Not only is it the earliest recorded Canadian hurricane, it is also by far the deadliest. September 23-24, 1866: A hurricane hit Newfoundland after weakening from a category 2. August 26, 1873: The Nova Scotia Hurricane of 1873 drifted south of Nova Scotia as a category 3. It weakened to a category one before slowly making landfall in Newfoundland. It was a devastating hurricane that killed over 600. August 23, 1886: A major hurricane weakened to a category 1 before crossing Newfoundland as a hurricane. September 8, 1891: A hurricane struck both Nova Scotia and Newfoundland as a category 1. August 18, 1893: A hurricane struck Newfoundland with 90 mph (145 km/h) winds. October 18, 1939: After a long lull for Canadian hurricanes, a hurricane struck Newfoundland as a category 1. No one died, but considerable damage was done to trees, boats, and buildings. September 29, 1958: Hurricane Helene struck Newfoundland as a hurricane. Although not very damaging in Canada, Helene did destroy a 50 metre (160 foot) wharf carrying many lobsters out to sea. There hadn't been a storm of significance to hit Newfoundland between 1958 and 2010 until Igor. If that signifies MMGW to you so be it. To me it signifies 0. There were other destructive storms to hit parts of Canada in that time frame but I only used Newfoundland as a reference. I lived in south Fl. in 1992 when Andrew struck. 1992 was one of the quietest years for the # of storms and yet Andrew was a Cat 5 and was the most costly storm to ever hit the US at that time. The MMGW group has been saying for years the storms will be more frequent and more deadly. Pure FUD. Maybe they should go back and look at the 1920s and 1930s before they look any more foolish then they already do.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.
