Hi everybody!
I'm very new here, total rookie, so, let me ask some simple ones: 1. how do you people forecast when a project (research) is going to "end"? 2. Is this flu research "dead"? 3. If so, why is it marked as active? 4. If so (#2), is it permanent? Thanks! |

1- In addition to Sekerob's nice charts, the techs sometimes provide information that can be used to estimate when the project will finish. In the case of flu we were told each batch had 902 targets so we could tell how far along we were in the batch by looking at the work unit numbers. We were also given a couple of week's warning that the project was nearing completion.
2- the flu project has had all the work units sent. We're now just waiting for everyone to complete the work. There could be some "no reply" or "aborted by user" or "inconclusive" work units that need to get sent out again, so the project is still listed as active. 3. see above 4. Phase I of the flu research is "done". The researchers may add some intermittent work at a later date, but no promises. Phase II will build on the work from Phase I and be a different badge. |

And the links to Sekerob's charts can be found here (as well as being located in the FAQ section and on the bottom of his signature);

phase one is complete or almost complete the scientists are not going through the data and sending out any replacement units they need further study on and then.
----------------------------------------there will be a phase 2 and hopefully a phase 3 and further. we are curently on phase 2 for Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2 Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 FightAIDS@Home ( is a recurring job they keep adding more) i expect to see phase 2 and beyond for all of these projects... sometimes it takes a while for the scientists a bit of time to sort through everything and get ready for phase 2+ until phase 2 is ready though you can work on other projects on WCG and watch and wait. hopefully there will be new projects soon that you are passionate about and can work on those. |
