You came up with two interesting solutions.
It might even be possible to set affinity to one core for an OS and run Boinc & GPUGrid from within, just using the same core.
That said, at the minute I cannot afford to mess around with this system too much, but I might give it a go in a few months or try it on another system if I get the time.
