The people who pay the bills for World Community Grid thought being on Twitter and sending out the occasional tweet was a good idea. Who are we to argue with that.
![]() It is definitely a good way to communicate status update if the World Community Grid website were ever to go totally down. Twitter and Facebook are not intended to take the place of updates in these forums. But being there could get us a few more crunchers. |

My concern, to clarify my thoughts, is that curently all outbound communication is provided via the fora, a vehicle that all crunchers have equal access to, since they have to be on the Internet to participate in WCG.
If some/all communication is provided, or duplicated, via Twitter, then Twitter provides advanced notice of that outbound communication. If the information being sent out is intended to be made available to all members at the same time, people who are not tweeting will be treated as a different class of member. The time delay could even be greater if the tweet is sent first then the information is then posted to the forum later. So you tweet me that the next Beta is started and I can then immediately suck up 4 days times 38 systems times 2 cores each of Beta WU before the non-tweeting members even know the Beta has started. Advantage: Tweetiots (good thing I have my Gold Beta already) So communicate all you want on Twitter, sending out news and updates on projects and new features found on WCG, but I urge caution on what you send out that impacts the primary task of crunching WU and continued respect for equal treatment of all members, big and small. |

So far what I've seen in the tweets is old news... already appeared on the forums. Lot's of tweets. Think the object is to message once per day, to reach out with what the forum / website visitors already know. Research page this, My Grid that etc. Mostly though if the website is down and everything else is down, head on over to the Facebook/twitty combo :D
----------------------------------------KPMG did a study... twittering is old hat, but like bbover3 writes, those who're slow in picking up new media methods will be reached and some of them are decision makers... surprise, a reach out to the guy on the can with his blackberry too is anticipated as well ;>)

I have never Tweeted yet (yes, I knows I am behind the times :p) I never had a real reason to. But, I think I am going to give it a try. As a team capt. I really should be on top of things, so..I'm signing up!

Ok. I have done it. And messages go directly to my cell. Not difficult at all.

I just received the following tweet:
WCGrid Help researchers from Harvard University find ways to provide more clean energy by improving solar cells: http://bit.ly/mEQRp #fb As Sekerob stated before in this thread: So far what I've seen in the tweets is old news... This news is really old ... they even advertise projects that are close to be finished ![]() ![]() ![]() |
