Re: Censorship?

Yes, the Facebook app. The whole attitude is rather difficult to understand.

Re: Censorship?

it is simply a matter of security... when you sign up for a facebook app you give them some of your user data. yes the grapics for the new uniffical WCG app looks nice and all but i do understand there feelings about something looking offical and not being that way.

from what i read myself from the WCG staff they wanted to make sure people knew it wasnt an offical WCG app and was 3rd party. personaly i think that is good for them.

now if you modify the app to make it "unoffical WCG app" or something like that they will probaly have less issues with it.

they are like any other company out there if you make an app that says you are them they will take offense to it

Re: Censorship?

Hi Didactylos, I've just noticed that you don't now have the CA title against your name. I hope that this (or perhaps the excellent 'badge redesign' work you did) hasn't caused any serious rift between your goodself and WCG.

Anyhow, no matter what the reason for you 'stepping down', I'd like to thank you for all the excellent work that you undertook whilst as a CA, and I'm sure that, even though you now don't have that title, you'll still continue (as you've always have done), to help and assist wherever necessary.

Re: Censorship?

I would like to say that upon careful consideration, I have removed the facebook app that isn't the 'Official" fb app of WCG. I do like the security measures that WCG takes to make it known to us that we are indeed protected by using authentic applications fully and wholeheartedly endorsed by World Community Grid.

I truly am sorry Didactylos. Your app is really good, but without WCG backing, I cannot in good faith continue using it.

I have no problems trusting you, but as nasher said above, maybe make it perfectly clear that your app is NOT official in anyway?

God bless you all. I do hope there can be a restoration between all involved.

Re: Censorship?

another option might be to send your app in its entirity to WCG (including any legal rights to it) and let them see if they like it or if they can tweek it themselves...

again the problem isnt you or the app ... from what i can see it looks like a nice app... its just the fact that it makes it look like an offical app instead of an unificial one... i also did like the look of the certificits... corse again its an unificial one

Diana, my application has a disclaimer stating that it is not endorsed by IBM or World Community Grid.

Anything else would be most unethical.

Nasher, I offered to collaborate with World Community Grid on this over a month ago when I told them about my plans.

They turned me down.

Re: Censorship?

Didactylos, I knew when you posted it that it was from you and not WCG itself. I had no problem with that all. I didn't know WCG is working on an official one, so the way it is at this time, I feel that I had to step out of this and keep with the 'official' standing. I like you immensely, I must do what I feel is the best course of action at this time.

Agreed. Thank you for all of your help here.
