Hi Didactylos, I've just noticed that you don't now have the CA title against your name. I hope that this (or perhaps the excellent 'badge redesign' work you did) hasn't caused any serious rift between your goodself and WCG. Believe it or not, this is the reason. You would think that it would be impossible for them to be so petty. But there you have it: instead of saying "thank you", they got all angry that someone produced something better than they did. Pathetic, isn't it? Our aim here is to promote World Community Grid, and more importantly, to further the causes we are supporting. They should leave their egos at the door. As I'm sure you are aware, World Community Grid have limited funding and resources at the best of times - and in the current economy, they have even less to spare. So, why they should turn down assistance and publicity given freely and without strings is quite baffling. I simply can't comprehend why they are so eager to shoot themselves in the foot. I wonder how long this post will last before it mysteriously "disappears"? |

just looking at the images you presented in your post
----------------------------------------https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,27569 all the images presented give the impression of being from the offical site it sucks you lost your comunity advisor roll for this though from what I can see I think that I like your app though. but i doubt if this thread will misteriously disapear. I do not think its there ego that is stoping them. I think it has to do with legal ramifications. if you notice stats sites like BOINCstats and such all list there site and themselves instead of just sayin BOINC. in this world today you have to be carfull about legal and being listed as a spokesperson when not officaly affliated. again i like your app i will have to check yours and the old offical one and see how i like the 2 of them and decide what one (or both) i will use till the NEW one they are promising comes out  |

hope this thred dosnt get locked.. i see you edited your first post and change the title of it so it looks like the one that was closed by the WCG admins
----------------------------------------TKX on WCG admin posted World Community Grid has had a basic Facebook application available for members to use for the past 2 years. You can access it at: http://apps.facebook.com/worldcommunitygrid/ in my opinion they are right .. your app uses there name and the WCG symbol and still dosnt show anything on the pics i see that you are not "officaly" part of WCG. they were also right about posting that it was not suported by them... We have been in the process of redesigning and reworking our Facebook application for the past month to make it more dynamic, engaging and integrated into the World Community Grid website. We plan to release the updated application in early November. We will submit the World Community Grid Facebook application to Facebook's official application verification program. This process will provide our members with the certainty that they are dealing with an application that is the official World Community Grid application. In the meantime, World Community Grid has been made aware that a new Facebook application has been created that was designed to look and act like an official World Community Grid application. It is important that our members understand that this application was not developed by World Community Grid. Facebook provides applications access to much of the personal information that their users provided to Facebook. Since we do not control the application in question, we cannot verify or control what is done with that information and advise members to join at their own risk. We apologize to our members for any confusion on the official World Community Grid Facebook application. personaly i am a bit annoyed you modified your post to one the WCG responded to... yes i do not agree that they should have locked the post but they did, dosnt make it any better that you reposted it and made it look like this is the same thread still likeing the looks of your version but can you put something like unoffical in your graphics or mabey make it World Comunity Grid Statsviewer by ... or somethign similar.. yes they have there own version of a facebook app. and they posted a link to it as well |

ok i see the admins have modified the tread do to it being an advertisement.. i understand that as well.
----------------------------------------i am not supriesed they removed the top post of this thread by Didactylos. it is there site and they did not delete the article they seperated it from the thread and posted a link to this thread to it i am glad they also linked the other thread they broke it from |

Like I said, they keep shooting themselves in the foot. The more they try to suppress the application, the more people are curious what it's all about.

This thread makes me a sad panda.
Didactylos, your posts are some of the clearest and most concise with regards to troubleshooting issues people may have. I'm not sure I'm ready to face a world where you're not a CA. Nice looking app, though. It's a shame that it seems to be causing strife, especially when this one auto-updates and doesn't have the panel containing the Ribbons of Mystery. I knew that Facebook thing was trouble! *shakes cane* |

Forum posts may not point to a website which features sexual content, gambling, or intolerance of others. In addition, Members may not represent themselves as other Members or as employees of World Community Grid. they could also use this statement cause your app uses the WCG grapics symbol and the name World community grid. you violated there rules and the modified the post to fit within there rules. then you tried to slip behind them and relink your post into the thread behind there backs (in my opinion) and they split the thread.. (they also did link to it so you can go there) honestly i was probaly 99% sure i was going to use your facebook app (the un-offical one) but cause of trying to hyjack your own thread i have decided to use the one WCG made themselves and wait for there new and approved version. all that in mind.. I hope you say and continue to crunch for them.. but if you decide to leave (its your computer and your choice) then please at least continue to do distributed computing. Hello? I'm trying to promote World Community Grid. I'm fairly sure that's allowed. (Mind you, I do wonder sometimes. It's like World Community Grid is some huge secret and we aren't allowed to tell anyone about it. The difficulties we had just to use the logo legally, for example. It's ludicrous. We still can't use the logo on merchandise, because of World Community Grid's mismanagement.)

you have been doing an admrible job of promoting WCG.
----------------------------------------i believe the issues again were the fact that 1) the app looks like an offical app not a 3rd party app 2) they closed and locked the orignal thread with a comment showing the offical app and saying they were working on upgrading theres 3) you tried to relink your add with the title of "New Facebook application for World Community Grid! " in the forums. it is not a WCG facebook app but an unoffical WCG app or mabey an ap made by Didactylos to promote WCG. 4) they may have modified the post and locked the split of the thread but they kept the message and even gave us a quick link to it. 5) they also pointed out to users that we might be giveing information to the creater of the app we didnt intend to give. logos have issues with trademark infringement all the time. I am not supprised that we cant merchandise it. mind you i would love it if they merchindised it. i dont think it is mismanagement they are just trying to be carefull. |
