Hello, I recently acquired nine Sun Ultra 10's when my university threw them away. I decided to put them to better use htan rotting in a trash heap, and want to run WCG on them.
I found a version of BOINC (6.2.19) compiled for Linux on SPARC. Unfortunately, it seems like SETI@Home is the only BOINC project out there that supports this combination of OS and architecture. I'd much rather have these computers improving the Earth than looking for aliens, so I would like to know: where can I get the source code for the WCG's current projects, and what do I need to know about compiling them on these machines (Ubuntu 8.04 and SPARC architecture). How should I set up the app_info.xml file so that WCG will recognize it? How do I find my account key so that I can attach to the project? etc... |

Sowwy to knock your enthusiasm. The source code for any project at WCG is not public. Aside that, the sciences are dependant on so many exact timings that the results might/probably is not even be useful. That's probably why SETI pretty much is the only one having this port. Anyway, 10 is not enough however great your offer is. Thousands and WCG might look up.
----------------------------------------The previous thread touching on SPARC mentions also the periodic SIMAP having a port. They are a respectable science crowd into gene analysis database building. They are periodic. Work only during first few days of the month. I'd much rather have these computers improving the Earth than looking for aliens, Well, think about it: A decent Quad-core (AMD or Intel) outperforms your 9 machines by far. Ultra 10s are technology of the 90s, don't forget that. |
