cpu allocation[RESOLVED]

i'm not sure if the cpu allocation actually changes anything? when i upped it to 100% it was still going to take the same amount of time as at 50%, so what is the benefit? i have the resources, but if all it does is heat up my cpu for nothing, then i don't really want to do that!

Re: cpu allocation

Which project are you processing and how long did you let it run at 100%? Trust me, you are getting a lot more done at 100%. If the project is RICE then it always runs 7 hours no matter how fast or slow anyone's PC is but it will process a lot more, that is why you get more points running 100%.

Re: cpu allocation

ohh ok, so maybe it will change completion time after minutes, got it, and i'm doing cancer so i guess i'll bump it up again, i don't even notice the usage even at 100%! its crazy, put this thing to GOOD use, one other thing, is it possible to use the GPU for this as well?

Re: cpu allocation

Maybe it's a duo which gives in Task Manager the 50% per process info, which is 100% of 1 core?

c4jjm, is that where you see this and is it constant? Then you're at max already. If you made the change at the website device profile, the client needs to first communicate with the servers to fetch the new setting if it was before showing there as 60%.

Re: cpu allocation

sekerob: no i know the difference between cores, i have a quad core, and i'm running 64 bit linux, i don't know if it has anything to do with the distro or what, but when i set it to 100%, it uses all 4 cores for one project so its great, and even better i do everything i used to....and that i see absolutely no lag its awesome!

addition: oh ok looked at system monitor and see that 4 instances of BOINC are running

Re: cpu allocation

oh, sorry one more question, i left my computer on for probably close to 2 hours, it went to screen saver and shut off the monitors, should taht have stopped the processing also? seems like it would have kept running like everything else but the time elapsed didn't not show that?

Re: cpu allocation

Okay, then that's good. Please edit your opening post's title and insert [RESOLVED] in there to close the case.

If the client stopped during the screensaver period or shortly after it came on and message log entry shows a pause and resume, you need to revisit the website device profile and change Stop work after computer is idle for: X minutes to 0.0

happy crunching.
