Rating a response in the forums

Hello WCG.

Attention:
WCG-forum policy administrator
knreed - WCG Tech

Gentlemen:
I would like to suggest that a system be in place where those who post answers ("responders") are rated by those ("initiators") who have raised some WCG-related concerns and seek to have answers to those concerns. I believe that this rating mechanism has the potential to help steer the quality of the discussions in the forum to a higher level in that those who helped the most people (and in the most effective way) gets rewarded the most while not exactly punishing those who could know better. As for "initiators", I envision that they would get their help faster (than otherwise would be without the "push-pull" of a rating system) and with all the pluses that, in turn, bring to them specifically and to WCG in general. For this, I suggest that a "Rate this response" icon be incorporated in the post at the forums.

Thanks smile
.

Re: Rating a response in the forums

Personaly dont think this would be that usefull in my opinion

1) alot of articles are not nessarly based on a one answer but are more of a discussion

2) most the Community Advisors along with other members try to give you the best answer and once you have it your problem is solved

3) there have been some FAQ made of the most common problems and questions so a raiting system again in my opinion wouldnt be my top priority

personaly there are alot of stats updates and such i would love to see before something like this was developed.

Agree with nasher, too. Forums are not Yahoo! Answers, after all...

Re: Rating a response in the forums

I've seen this in operation at other sites except that the rating button is usually available to everyone. What happens is people use it to vote their own biased opinion and therefore it doesn't give any indication of the quality of a post or comment. I suspect the same thing would happen even if it were limited to the OP. In fact, I can see some people posting threads just so they would have the opportunity to crap on people who disagreed with their point of view.

1) alot of articles are not nessarly based on a one answer but are more of a discussion

Level is usually away above average in all discussions had on this forum comparared to all the other forums you can find from the internet. I personally think here people respect each other. I prefer discussion over answers.

2) most the Community Advisors along with other members try to give you the best answer and once you have it your problem is solved

And they are usually very quick.

cheers
Mika
