The Grid seems to be a good idea but will it survive the tantrums

as a real new person joining the grid i came out of curiosity after I heard on the local radio show about the behaviour here.

the posting of burning flags and the sniper scope of kids in the sight.

maybe the grid is useful, but after taking a quick look here, this is not for normal people.

good luck to ibm and the rest of the sponsors... i wonder if they realize what the perception is.

I have had some doubts for awhile now, if the internet is for "normal" people. ((As I spend hours and hours here)) wink

Doing something useful with this computer despite it all....LOL

Sadly Daoust this is the case as unfortunately the World Community Grid reflects the world that we live in.

But the only way to change it is to occupy the space given for good.

Beautiful isn't it?

The World Community Grid
Working Together for the good of Mankind.

I think they are talking about my sig with the kids in scope sights. evidently the uneducated radio personna is not familiar with south park's terrence and Phillip characters who are not kids.

What Radio station and DJ Daoust? You have peaked my curiosity. I have no idea what they are talking about with burning flags.

I'd be interested in reading/listening to the story as well. Probably a college radio station.

You, and only you, choose the perspective with which you must view the world. On one hand, there are some immature antics on this board, of which I am just as guilty as the next. However, if you were to go to the other boards, such as Member to Member Support and the HPF Project, you'll see a far more cohesive and idealistic community that is here, above all else, for a good purpose.

Above all, don't forget that.

Re: The Grid seems to be a good idea but will it survive the tantrums

It's a jolly good question. At first, I thought it was mildly amusing. Then, I realized we are supposed to be role models. There are kids looking up to us and we should take this seriously. We are folders. The pro athletes of the internet. We need to set a good example for everyone else.

Health is not a laughing matter. I really hope we can develop a cream strong enough to cure the 'roids that must be bursting from your tightly clenched cheeks.

Re: The Grid seems to be a good idea but will it survive the tantrums

okay so was this like WCG shoutcast station online with 5 listeners?

obviously the announcer has no idea what he is talking about as he has missed the context on the flag and the scope... and that there are teams in the WCG... that there are points in the WCG. Thus there is competition. Real surprise there. I believe they call that a "desired outcome of good project design". i.e that the people at WCG thought "how can me maximise the amount of users and throughput?? Have teams and points so that there is rivalry and competition."

The teams that have been compeditive have actually had big increases in output... The only tantrum (yep... singular i have seen) is by someone from Canada who wants his team to not produce many units or do much for the WCG. So WCG will continue to grow through lack of tantrums... although a shame that a radio annoucer is doing such a poor job... could have done some serious good for WCG.
