Re: The Grid seems to be a good idea but will it survive the tantrums

Geck0,

You may recall there was a team called The Liberty Belle. About 3 weeks ago virtually all of their members jumped ship .. some of them going to Cybernauts and it looks like Dark Choclate attracted the rest.

This thread has been moved to the chat room. With the exception of the last two posts, it doesn't appear to be related to any team or recruiting effort.

To the poster who identifies himself as Daoust.

as a real new person joining the grid i came out of curiosity after I heard on the local radio show about the behaviour here.

the posting of burning flags and the sniper scope of kids in the sight.

maybe the grid is useful, but after taking a quick look here, this is not for normal people.

good luck to ibm and the rest of the sponsors... i wonder if they realize what the perception is.

First you visit the forum just long enough to pull out of context 2 isolated visual images/metaphors which you criticize simply because at face value they allude to violent or objectionable behavior. You then use these 2 “out-of-context” metaphors as an excuse to label this entire forum as “not for normal people.”

If we apply your logic, then Guernica is proof that Picasso was “not normal.” Therefore, going to art galleries is “not for normal people,” either.

Perhaps by “not normal” you mean not psychologically adjusted? If so, would you care to qualify this statement?

Or, was it your intention to define the criteria by which legitimate artistic expression can be distinguished from psychopathology? I must have missed that part.

Did you mean, perhaps, that some members of this forum are “not normal” in a statistical sense?

No, not everyone on this forum conforms to a behavioral repertoire that is acceptable and non-objectionable to every other member of the forum and to every member of the general public. Do you mean to say that you find this fact surprising and “not normal” on an internet forum? Please!

But this is exactly what you mean, isn’t it, Daoust?

Your covert assertion that all normal people will inevitably respond to the forum posts in the same way that you do is, frankly, “a bit over the top.” Despite the sophistry, it is obvious that you are simply attempting to marshal support that would allow only that content which you decide is “normal” to be posted uncensored.

You then proceed to make the “logical leap” that the WCG and the Rosetta project will inevitably suffer if these “not normal” activities are allowed to continue. Yet you offer no proof, either logical or empirical, to support any of your statements. In fact, as SAKU1303 pointed out so well, the facts indicate that just the opposite is true.

Did it ever occur to you that promoting the freedom of creative expression might be more valuable and stimulating to us than is the prospect of trying to live up to an impossible and ridiculous compulsion not to offend anyone at any cost? Self-honesty, personal integrity, clarity of thought, a genuine regard for other people, and a great sense of humor are a high price to pay for the slavery of “political correctness” that you are so eager to impose on everyone else.

The fact of the matter is that we actually like ourselves enough to live as real people in a real world.

So thanks for stopping by, Daoust. You have made a real positive contribution to the WCG, the Rosetta project and to all of us “not normal” people who are actually taking the time to make the world a little better for everyone. peace thinking

Dear Daoust,

Of course the grid is for normal people. I find the chatrooms a bit of a turnoff, but I think it is important to keep in mind that this is a sideshow rather than the main event. Most of the members in the WCG aren't into the big team rivalries. If they were, there wouldn't be over four thousand teams for 45,000 members. I am primarily interested in it as a relatively easy way to aid medical research that doesn't cost much time or money. I suspect that motivates alot of other people as well.

Re: The Grid seems to be a good idea but will it survive the tantrums

For the record:

The flag burning post, while tasteless, was not offensive to me. It only reflects poorly on the poster. Same goes for the other posts of this nature. If the poster wishes to be viewed as having no class and having no respect for their "competitors" then so be it. It's also silly that these same posters call others poor sports while showing a total lack of good sportsmanship by making these posts.
