Hey everyone,
I was wondering if someone could give me tips on configuring the WCG client to maximize the amount of points earns from a computation. For example: is there a real benefit to increasing the amount of disk space from 1Gig to 5G or even 10G? Do I take a communications score hit if I disable internet communications on the weekends? Etc. Also, does anyone know what weights are assigned to each parameter? Thanks, Andy |

In addition, I have a bunch of old machines that I was thinking about connecting to the grid. (Some old P2 and P3 machines.) Is there a real benfit in running the applications on these machines to gain extra points or should I just build a simple P4 machine instead?

What are points all about? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1505
Can members have multiple PC's participating on the project? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1981 Old PCs are a great way to add to your points. Just be sure that they meet the minimum requirements, such as 128 MB RAM, as detailed at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq There is a lot of information in Help, which is where the minimum requirements page is located. I copied the first 2 questions from the 'Start Here' forum. Happy crunching! And ask questions if anything puzzles you. mycrofth |

The official company line on points can be found in the Help on Points .
To answer your question about the hard disk space... feel free to just say 10GB. You'll get more points this way, and since the current project doesn't use anywhere near that amount of disk space it won't really affect your computer at all. We'll be sure to let you know if any future projects are going to use up more of your hard drive than the Human Proteome Folding is currently. |
