I have just noticed, that very much of my results are rated as inconclusive.
----------------------------------------Anyone else, who has this "phenomenom"...??? My servers do already crunch for quite a while, and they are very reliable. I hope, that this problem is not on my side... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 15, 2009 12:33:35 AM] |

I noticed that too on some of mine recently. In the FAQ's it says that it is fairly common (especially with single validation projects like this one). It is just the servers sending out the same work unit to someone else to make sure that your computer is working correctly. Once their return comes back (& matches yours) they both will validate & both of you get credit for crunching them. All of mine (7) cleared as valid within 3-5 days or so.
----------------------------------------Patience is the key here. |

I think that there may be a tendancy for this to occur more just after you've swapped your projects from a multi-quorum project to a single-quorum one.
----------------------------------------When I swapped from HCC to IADS, I initially got loads of 'Inconclusives', and eventually, they all validated successfully. Since then, I get the odd rare one now and then... |

Yes, I'm seeing a slightly higher number than I have in the past, but not enough to concern me. I assume it's just the validator finding that the result is outside some expected range and so asking for a second opinion. Probably just in the nature of the WUs that are going out at the moment. My machine gets short turn-round requests, so I also assume that it is classed as "trusted" already, so that wouldn't trigger them.

The rate mix of inconclusive and repair/makeup and those outright quorum 2 thus sometimes seeing pending validation seems to be in the area of 20%. Sometimes for days and days don't see any on the zero redundancy projects, then I see days in a row where every 10th is getting the rubber stamp of 'like to have that check'. All part of having enough random/planned verification that the total project is only passing highly trustworthy results.
----------------------------------------If you get short turn around requests, than it's your machine being considered 'reliable', but still the slotted 'inconclusive' will appear to check the credentials regardless of the 'trusted'. Meantime, the FLU1 daily 'validations' is dipping, so it looks like an extra day of 'new' work is in the making, same as what just happened with CEP1... as in: Got the targeted badge, or enough in buffer to get there.

What causes a result to be "Inconclusive"? Sometimes I have very few, or no, "Inconclusive" results and sometimes I'll have 6 or 8. I don't worry about them because they always end up "Valid" but I am curious what triggers the system to label them as "Inconclusive" in the first place. Doesn't seem to matter which computer returns the result (i.e. all 3 of my computers get about the same amount of "Inconclusive" results) even though all three have different operating systems and are set up differently.
----------------------------------------Q6700 overclocked to the MAX stable, 8GB RAM, Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Dedicated cruncher that is used for nothing other than WCG. If this one throw errors I look at the computer first. QX6700 overclocked, but not to the MAX, plenty stable (not pushing this one nearly as far as it is capable of), 4GB RAM, XP Pro 32 bit. My everyday computer that I use for everything. Q6700, NOT overclocked at all (my test mule - when this one throws errors there is a problem somewhere other than the hardware [the ENERGY WASTING project - CEP - for example ]), 3GB RAM, Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Also a dedicated cruncher. [Edit 1 times, last edit by David_L6 at Sep 19, 2009 2:14:53 AM] |

Hi David_L6,
Inconclusive results that turn Valid - the first thing to look at is the quorum method for that project. Everybody will get a small number of inconclusives on single-quorum projects to cross-check the validation. In addition, 'reliable' systems will be assigned work units being run by systems that have recently returned Invalid results. Lawrence |
