What will it take? Everyday we are presented with a fresh bit of news of this catastrophe or that, that will spell the doom of all things on earth. Global warming, super release of ocean held methane, rouge meteor, super eruptions, near space supernova, maybe it will come from an unexpected solar belch, that will spew out an all consuming filament of dense solar plasma.
----------------------------------------The end is not important. It is what we do in the mean time that is. Have you ever stopped to think that the earth itself is alive? That at some level the earth is aware? Sound far fetched? In almost all major religions and some minor, the earth is aware and alive. Doesn’t make it so but it does make one wonder have millenniums of observation bought with it an understanding that escapes the test and observe mode of viewing or seeing things. That maybe we are being treated as children, first we crawl, then we walk, then we run and now we fly. Every mother wishes her offspring to survive and carry on, should the earth be different? Maybe we are being pushed out of the nest. Maybe we should listen. The heart beat of the earth grows more still. It is more quite now than 40 - 50 years ago. The time between each beat grows longer. The earth will support us just like any mother with the last beat of her great heart. Maybe we should pat the ground we walk on with our hand and as we do so give a moment of thanks and a stroke of love to the one that gives us all we have. It is Mothers day in some parts, this weekend and maybe it would be a good time to remember the first mother of us all. Whether you believe the earth to be living or sentient or not – the thanks and the feeling is as much for ourselves, for us to remember we are all tied together on this one world in the arms of this one mother, as it is for the earth. Have you ever stopped to think that the earth itself is alive? That at some level the earth is aware? Sound far fetched? I've always wondered how anyone can possibly think that it is not, Paws. The universe goes bang. The Earth gets formed. The planet gets inundated with an infinite variety of life forms. All by itself. If the planet wasn't alive and aware in the first place, then how could it create life and sentience? Epistemologically, it couldn't. Or, we can try the "other solution." Metaphysics has determined that any supreme being, by definition, must be 4 things: omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and eternal. By definition then, any supreme being/creator must actually BE all things or that being can not truly be said to be omnipresent. Are there really any differences in our conclusions, then? Nope. None what-so-ever. It's pretty damned wonderful and amazing. I agree, Paws, let's make it a point not to take even one second of it for granted. So, a Happy Mother's Day to all of my Mom's everywhere - what-ever we may choose to call her. ![]() Love, just another dumass |
