I am running on a laptop with XP. Right now is working on "nutritious rice for the world". I set it up to run only after a minute of inactivity and seems to be doing just that.
----------------------------------------Problem, often after running for a few minutes and going to the screen saver, it freezes. The only way out is by power down and re-boot. Any ideas? I am also running on my desktop but no problems there. Thanks ![]() |

Next time it happens try not to touch the mouse, just the key board and see if you can come out. e.g. hit escape to call up the password screen.
----------------------------------------What BOINC version?

Sorry, I meant if the screensaver comes on, not when already stuck, to do an escape.

The boinc version has to be the newest one. I dowloaded it just 3 days ago. It says WCG-Boinc manager 6.2.28.
----------------------------------------I am waiting for the laptop (it is actually my wife's laptop) to freeze again. My girl gave me just a little time to solve the problem before she uninstalls "my program" I'll get back to you as soon as I get another freeze ![]() |

Hi Gil II,
The really easy way to solve this is to choose another screen saver by selecting Start - Settings - Control Panel - Display - Screen Saver and picking a screen saver that you like. Lawrence |

Gill II - can you see if the same thing happens with this version of BOINC: http://boincdl3.ssl.berkeley.edu/mirror/boinc_6.6.36_windows_intelx86.exe
We are seeing a slowly increasing number of these reports. There is a change in BOINC in the version I reference above that was put in to avoid this issue. We have started to look at 6.10 and work towards adopting it but we are at the start of that process. |

A couple of experiments.
----------------------------------------1) when running on screensaver touch the touchpad. This causes the freeze. 2) whenrunning the screensaver press esc. It comes out of the screensaver and everything is fine. Your solution is good. Thank you ![]() |

Yes I know... a longer standing mouse bug that is fixed in 6.6. If you/girl/wife can live with the work around or switch to a non-BOINC SS no need to upgrade.

My wife decided that the best solution was to change the screensaver so she has done that and "my parasite" is allowed to stay.... til it makes more trouble
