BOINIC eating disk space 6.2.28 XP

Hi, Upgraded to 6.2.28 from 5. something. Since that time I have "ran" out of disk space twice. I started at 2 GB allowed... then it stopped downloading as the disk area was "full" and I bumped it to 4GB and today hit that mark so now I am at 7GB. What can be done about this insatiable need for space? Doesn't Boinic clean up after itself? Ran 5.something for 3 years - did not even know I had a disk space variable - now .. it wants my hard drive all to itself.

It sounds like you made an error when installing BOINC.

If you install BOINC to (for example) C:\ then it will include everything in C:\ when calculating the space it uses.

This is the most common situation. Fix it by reinstalling BOINC, being careful when choosing the data directory.

Re: BOINIC eating disk space 6.2.28 XP

Hi - first - the start up log... not sure where that is.. hints on how to pull that data would be helpful. Directory location - c:\Program Files \ BOINIC.... so not sure if something else needed to be created to limit sizing. Total Disk info in BOINIC claims 13.78mb used out of 17GB free.... and Disk used by BOINIC projects is 7.99mb

If you don't know where the messages are, where did you see the message you are reporting? I'm a little confused.

Please will you post the actual lines from the Messages tab that you are concerned about?

Thank you.

Does not matter if you're in simple view where there is the message button or the advanced view message tab. Scroll to top, select 30 lines or so and hit the copy selection button to paste it in your next post. It's good as sure your data directory is shared with other files and given the rapid growth, possibly root where the swap file resides.

Re: BOINIC eating disk space 6.2.28 XP

Sekerob, that was my first thought. Now, I suspect the error was misreported and there is a problem with the minimum free disk space or one of the other parameters. jfilby claims BOINC only reports 13.78 MB used.

Hi, I sent another note, on an error I received when uploading the message log to this form. When that is sorted out, I will try again. In the interim, I was looking at the logs and the following seemed to stick out.

Update - ran the reset again - went to Advanced preferences and changed disk to 5.00GB - and got two new tasks...

Not sure why playing with the disk allocated impacts only mb of processing, but apparently it does. Hope this helps as well.
