I have one error out every few days, I also pick up make up work from someone else that had errored out about as often. However yesterday I picked up about a dozen make up work all about the same time. Every unusual. As if the planets were no longer in the proper alingement.

Is there anything else in the client message log round about when these results failed? Look in file stdoutdea.txt if you restarted the client since, or booted the computer.

The only uncommon I see is this: 25-Sep-2009 14:38:56 [World Community Grid] Starting flu10901j0561_100240_0 25-Sep-2009 14:38:56 [World Community Grid] Starting task flu10901j0561_100240_0 using flu1 version 604 25-Sep-2009 14:38:57 [World Community Grid] Computation for task flu10901j0561_100240_0 finished 25-Sep-2009 14:38:57 [World Community Grid] Output file flu10901j0561_100240_0_0 for task flu10901j0561_100240_0 absent 25-Sep-2009 14:38:57 [World Community Grid] Output file flu10901j0561_100240_0_1 for task flu10901j0561_100240_0 absent Furthermore it turned out that this is not an IADS problem - I got the same error after switching to FAAH |

Yes, the absent file thingy and the 210 error (first time report at WCG) suggests your work units are not in a completed download condition, maybe the client_state.xml or the BOINC data folder corrupt. Suggest project reset...

Suggest project reset... Project reset - I am getting the same errors Completely deinstalled with all data and reinstalled BOINC 6.2.15 - same errors. Installed the Harddisk to a similar Thinkpad - same errors. Deleted BOINC again and installed 6.2.18 from the ubuntu repositories - same errors. This morning I ran an update with the Synaptic Manager - maybe one of the updated files causes the errors? |

If I understand it correctly you attached the HD to a different laptop and got same... your HD might be borged. Do some disk integrity tests. Yes, you understood correctly. The disk integrity check delivered nothing special: Journal renewed /dev/sda2 clean. But then I ran the BIOS HD diagnostics program. Et viola : Error Code 0000: Read verification failed I just don't understand why all other applications work well. Also I cannot continue the testing because the errors shattered my daily quota. Thanks for your prompt answers, Sekerob!!! I think I have to continue crunching without those two cores of the laptop for some days. Fortunately I completed 362 days for flu with the noon update. The 3 days to Emerald will be easily handled by the remaining fleet - as far as nothing else unforseen happens ... |

falconet,
----------------------------------------roundup's problem was hardware related. The client very rarely is responsible for science fails and 6.2.28 was well through the testing phases and further. It's my reference client with 5.10.45 still on one to be able to run RICE, no 6.x succeeding on that device with that science. The 6.6 client was never completed to full maturity is my opinion, but only an opinion... hop hop on it went to 6.8 and 6.10. 6.6.38... well 6.6.40 just has been out for a little (only on Linux I think till now). Is that telling? If you don't need GPU crunching, let it be and stick with 6.2.28, for windows.

roundup's problem was hardware related. ... and that has been confirmed in the meantime. The errors were definitely not generated by the 6.2.15 client. The harddisk had a headcrash after the laptop has fallen to the floor together with my cup of tea (you better unplug the network cable before runnning away from your desk with laptop in one hand, tea in the other) . I expect this machine to be online again online by the end of the week. |
