Re: MAC OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard: should GPU engage?

I have BOINC 6.6.36 running on a new Mac mini with SL, but it is only using the Intel Core Duo processor. It asserts "no coprocessors", apparently missing the NVidia GeForce 9400M graphics processing unit, which I thought could run CUDA programs. I do not see a way to update any NVidia drivers, and restarting/reinstalling BOINC has no effect. Should I expect BOINC to engage the GPU on a Mac mini running SL? If not, that's a loss. If so, any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks

It's maybe possible detection and usage of CUDA is now possible on Mac if you're using v6.10.x-alpha-clients...

... But, as long as no projects has made any Mac/CUDA-applications, even if BOINC-client detects your CUDA, it won't be used anyway, so switching BOINC-client won't have any effect.

Re: MAC OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard: should GPU engage?

I am running 6.6.36 successfully on SL though I think I did have to reinstall it to set the permissions correctly. The later version that Charlie compiled should work "better" but of the 6.10.x versions I have only been able to run 6.10.3 all the others seem to have significant issues.

Other notes, if you use SoftRAID contact technical support and see if you can get the beta which may address some Kernal panics

If you use TechTools, uninstall it completely and that will get rid of other Kernal Panics ...

Oh, and on Vista, where I tried 6.10.6 I have lost several WCG tasks to a slight case of computation error ... using 6.10.3 no problems ... and I am using 6.10.3 on that system to get the benefit of ATI support ... and the most significant issue is that sharing the ATI card across projects does not work well ... for one thing resource share is not respected ... all reported to UCB ... now we wait ...

Re: MAC OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard: should GPU engage?

Ok. Installing BOINC 6.6.36 on my Macbook running Snow Leopard fixed everything except the screen saver, which is okay. But now when I try to add WCG to my project list, there was a message that it was an incompatible project. After that, the selection was grayed out.

Now what?

The screen saver will not work with 6.6.36, however later BOINC versions have reported that the screen saver will work.

Out of curiosity, did you re-boot the computer?? I had a similar situation and that worked.

For the screensaver to work, upgrade to latest mac-version from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

As for "incompatible", if you means a message like "This project may not have work for your type of computer. Are you sure you wish to continue?", it should still be possible to attach.
If it doesn't work installing from the list of projects, try using http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org directly...
