Installed BOINC on a newly installed PC after a HD crash.. I was able to install BOINC successfully and get tasks running again, however, whenever I try to login after clicking on MY GRID, RESULTS STATUS, etc, I get the login screen where I enter my userid and password and it just sits there after I enter my userid and password. If I kill IE and try to go back to login again, IE comes back and says Internet Explorer Is Unable To Display The Web Page. This happens whether I start IE by clicking on My Grid, or just opening IE and typing in the link to WCG. The only way around this that I've found is to kill all of my cookies/files etc. and then start over. At this point, it asks for userid and password and hangs again after I type them in.
Am running IE7 and BOINC 6.6.36. Does anybody know what is going on here and how to fix? It's not a "major" problem as I can always log on from another PC on the network, but it's just irritating that something doesn't work correctly. Thanks, Chuck |

Hello Chuckebo,
I do not remember hearing of a similar error. What Windows version are you running IE7 on? Lawrence |

Am running Windows XP w/SP3.. Actually the more I play around with it, I don't believe it is a BOINC problem but a problem with logging on to the website.. It seems to happen regardless if I enter by clicking on the website buttons in BOINC or just fire up IE and type in the URL. Seems to be same results either way.
Thanks, Chuck |

Hello Chuckebo ,
All I can think of is checking out your browser for problems. Look at Tools - Internet Options and check your Security and Privacy settings. If this does not suggest anything to you, then do a comparison test. Download Firefox (without changing your default browser) and see id it can contact WCG without any problems. This might at least narrow down the problem. Lawrence |

Lawrence,
I was unable to find anything wrong with IE, and I disabled the firewall to see if that wasn't the problem.. No luck. I did install Firefox and it worked flawlessly.. Not to mention it is substantially faster than IE..... I was dreading having to do that as I had tried Firefox a couple of years ago and it seemed to be 'bug laiden' but now seems to work quite well. I think I'll stick with it and not worry about IE any longer. Thanks so much for your help! Chuck |

There's probably a few settings in IE7 v.v. mixed secure and unsecured elements (internet options, advanced). I've chosen to be alerted by Firefox (3.5 and the even faster 3.6 out in the near future). Now a small window appears each time I make a post, but I'm fine with that.
----------------------------------------What bugs me is that in the new version I've not found how to clear the cookies on exit, but not the cache. Before it would always ask under 3.1. There's always answers on the internet, so far found a summary how to force the history and different cache element clearing for various popular browsers on windows and mac. Firefox 3.5 allows to even specify how far back to clear, 1, 2, 4 hours, today, all. http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html

Oh lah lah, lah lah, lots of upset people around in fact that want the Clear History pop-up back when exiting Firefox 3.5. How often does one just wish to restart to effectuate an add-on update after all!
----------------------------------------http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_th...ntId=379444&forumId=1 Have your say. One of the observed comments there is incorrect though. FFX 3.5 has session management and on restart just opens the tabs that were there when closing.
