Why does your download page feature a version of BOINC which has been superseded ? The latest version is 6.6.36.

It's becaaaaaause it's not thought fit for production with the extra and higher standard requirements WCG demands before endorsement! 6.6.38 still is tussles.... 6.6.39 coming and already 6.10.0 extreme Alpha in fast forward.
----------------------------------------Anyway, with the many very large contributors/partners don't think WCG is going to advertise a 'still in docks' release.

Sek.Or it could be because they chose to customize BOINC with important things like replacing the BOINC logo with the WCG logo (crunches faster that way ) and are now hoplessly behind what is happening now. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Aug 23, 2009 9:00:24 PM] |

... and already 6.10.0 extreme Alpha in fast forward. Everything they do is in fast forward, it seems like, and their releases are not always ready for prime-time more than not. |

I'm surprised at that because 6.6.36 is the version recommended at the BOINC site. |

Berkeley have different criteria for making a version recommended. As far as I understand, they will make a version recommended once there are no "showstopper" issues. However, they make exceptions for when they have promised a partner a specific feature by a deadline. In that case, they release whether there are major issues or not.

I'm surprised at that because 6.6.36 is the version recommended at the BOINC site. I'm not - after all, why would they recommend a version that is older than their latest... also, who better than the end users (i.e., us), to do their 'stress testing' for them ![]() No, until WCG recommend a version which they've tested and have proven to be stable and reliable under all circumstances (as well as customised/tweeked for this particular DC project), I'm sticking with the 6.2.28 version ![]() ![]() |

Why does your download page feature a version of BOINC which has been superseded ? The latest version is 6.6.36. If you want to get support from only Boinc, feel free to load whatever they recommend. If you want support from WCG then I suggest you load what WCG recommends. |

Other projects don't have the resources to audit BOINC. They have no choice but to use the version Berkeley provide.
Of course, what version you use is up to you. Many people are lucky enough not to encounter (or at least not to notice) any of the issues with a particular BOINC version. |
