Greetings,
----------------------------------------Members may start noticing with work units CMD2_0050 and above that the work units are now running about 6 hours instead of the 4 hours that they were running in the past. Please note that these work units should start being sent out in the next week. Also, the same 60% rules are still in effect. This means that if your work unit is over 60% complete at the 6 hour mark, then it will try to finish the work unit before the 12 hour mark is reached. Thanks, -Uplinger Edit: Fixed work unit name... Will it be only a change of the time limit values (in order to have less child and grandchild WUs) or will you also chop the parent WUs thicker to put more positions in each one?
----------------------------------------Also, maybe this change would be worth a Member News post for members who have a Forum Watch on this section. Cheers. Jean. |

This change will affect all of the parts of the work unit. The goal is to reduce the number of total work units. This is completed by putting more positions into fewer work units. This will help decrease the number of network and database connections by the clients.

This change will affect all of the parts of the work unit. OK, thanks. So, from a practical viewpoint, for devices, - devices which are generally stopped by the limit today will still be after the change, - and those which use to be allowed to complete their WU should still be allowed. And regarding WUs, the daily number of WUs should be reduced by 1/3rd but the proportion of parent, child and grandchild WUs should be about the same after the change. Is this correct? |

- devices which are generally stopped by the limit today will still be after the change, These members that were generally stopped should now be getting stopped at 6 hours instead of the 4 that they saw before. - and those which use to be allowed to complete their WU should still be allowed. These members should see the same treatment before. The chances of them encountering a hard protein to protein comparison goes up though since there are more being sent per work unit. But I would think on average they should encounter the same usage pattern as before And regarding WUs, the daily number of WUs should be reduced by 1/3rd but the proportion of parent, child and grandchild WUs should be about the same after the change. the parents will have about 1/3rd the amount. I do not know exactly how this will affect the children/grandchildren...In theory, they should go down a little more than 1/3rd...but by how much is not known as there are too many situations that could occur. But currently the average runtime for these work units is about 3 hours total for all types. I'm hoping this number will rise to about 4.5 hours with a 50% boost. Since children/grandchildren are involved it will take longer than normal to see how the runtime per work unit is affected. Thanks for the questions, -Uplinger |

Yes, if you increase the initial load by 33 % instead of the theoretical 50 % corresponding to the 4-to-6-hour increase then the number of children and grandchildren should logically decrease. We'll see how much. And thank you for the answers. Jean. |

Small anti-surprise bump seeing batch 46 tasks. As of batch 0050 the parent work unit get a 'usual' run time of 6 CPU hours unless 60% of the total positions is passed. Then it will run the whole content, unless the last 40% takes more than 6 hours i.e. more than a total of 12 CPU hours.
----------------------------------------Same rules apply for the child / grandchild work units, but we should see much less of them.

Got my first 0050 task with estimated time of 4 hours and 13 minutes. Thought estimated time was supposed to be 6 hours and let's say 19 minutes?

No, the flop estimates in the job headers are the prior period project average. It will take a week or longer after all in the production are of >= 0050 before the project starts showing the expected new average of 4.5 hours.

This morning the mean run time per job hit 4.53 hours, much faster than anticipated. France kicking up must have swallowed up all the short jobs in the feeders. Will it stop there or are there now more jobs that manage to hit the 60%+ of content at 6 hour mark and running to the end, the overall mean being further pushed up?
----------------------------------------At the moment do not know what the last batch is. Seen 64 in a client queue.
