Project Weight/Resource Share

I have multiple applications running in my Boinc client and notice that WCG and LHC@home (inactive at present I believe) both show 100% whereas CPDN, Seti@home and Einstein have 40, 10 and 30% respectively.

I'm curious, is that automatically set by the cross-whatever it's called?

Re: Project Weight/Resource Share

The default everywhere is a value of 100, which is not a %. Any other value you see in your client is of your doing, either directly in the project's device profiles or via the Account Manager System (AMS), if you're attached to that. WCG at this time does not allow AMS systems to write to device profiles you have in the My Grid > Device Manage > Device Profile portion or for that matter any portion but the CPID (subject to change).

Depending on the 'active' or 'suspended' state of an attached project, their share gets reallocated based on the sum of the 'active' projects. E.g. with 5 projects at default 100, 2 of those suspended, totaling 500 overall, each would initially get 100/500th, in detail:

WCG 100 active (20%), effectively 33%
LHC 100 active (20%), effectively 33%
SETI 100 suspended (20%) redistributed to active, effective 0%
Einstein 100 active (20%), effectively 33%
CPDN 100 suspended (20%) redistributed to active, effective 0%

Given that WCG/LHC show 100 (with 10% in brackets probably) and CPDN/Seti/Einstein, show 40, 10 and 30% suggests their values were set at 400, 100 and 300.

Does that compute?

Re: Project Weight/Resource Share

another thing to consider is server/work avalibility...

if one site is busy your computer may grab from another

also i think from what i have seen BOINC tries to make up for the past..

if ya have 10% seti done and your set to 33% it will do more work on seti to try to get about 33% total (not sure if its my version of boinc (not at home ot check ver number) or if its how boinc works

the reason they dont like useing % of work is simple sometimes jobs dont have work and sometimes you supsend a project.. if ya set them to % then it would go well im suposed ot do 10% seti but seti is suspended so im only osing 90% from other projects??

Re: Project Weight/Resource Share

Thanks guys. I never received notifcation of these replies so it's good that I dropped by anyway.

I never manually set any of those figures, so Boinc must have done it on its own.
