Re: New Linux Box!

Thanks for the info ziegenmelker, but you shouldn't have written it in a page under the namespace "Category" (should have written in a page with a title without any namespace's name in it). Maybe a sysop of the wiki (Didactylos?) can help you a bit.

And, Wiki is not a blog, so phases like "I will..." and "Please give me feedback..." (1st and 2nd person phases) aren't suitable for it . The "Please give me feedback..." bit can be placed in the corresponding Discussion page though (be sure to use "--~~~~" to sign it).

I removed the category, but shouldn't the content be visible here:
http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Installation

Thx for the advise. I have changed this. Anything else I can do better? You might place this on the discussion page of my contribution.

blushing Forgotten that Category pages can't be moved around (using the internal Move Page function), so you will have to manually copy your contents to the following page:

http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Installation%20(OpenSuse)

The name of the above page follows the convention of the other pages in the same Cateogry.

As for adding a page to a Category: before saving the Editing page, simply click the "Add Category" button near the bottom of the page (just above "Summary"), and type:

Installation

and then press Enter. The Category will then be added to the page.

Not so Simple ! ''popi,

If you are running the latest version of ubuntu which is 9.04. There is an easy method to install BOINC. This method is going through the Synaptec Package manager. It is in the Administration tool bar at the top. When you open the package manager you will want to search for "boinc". This should pull up a few packages to install. Select boinc-client and boinc-manager to install. Then once these are selected, press the apply button at the top. It will download and install boinc for you.

Next, once this is complete you'll want to close the package manager as it is not needed to be open. Then in the top left of the screen you should have an Applications link (similar to windows start menu). In there you will see a menu item for system tools. In system tools click on boinc manager. Once this is done, it'll open up and ask you to attach to a project. Use www.worldcommunitygrid.org for the project url and your member name and password you use on the site when prompted. This should get you going and you'll be processing using a Linux machine :)

Hope this helps,
-Uplinger

Re: New Linux Box!

You may all want to use the wiki page related Talk pages and the notification function to discuss the Wiki editing and arrangement. Biker 54 started using them. This way you keep things together.

cheers

PS: I like ziegenmelker... goats cheese is popular here ;>)

Should be this one instead. The Category talk one is the talk page of the incorrect page.

Edit: just dropped a note to Didactylos in the Wiki so that he can help us delete the incorrect pages.

Re: New Linux Box!

I'm in the process of building a new linux server with 2 (6-core) AMD processors but not sure what LINUX distribution I should use. Does anybody have a recommendation. I am considering opensuse 10 or 11.

Thanks!

Debian ?

Could you post which 6 core processors your going with? I see they have some with controllers and some without. The ones without are cheaper. Considering these as definately cheaper than intel and would make a good crunching box for 12 cores.
