Ken., in September I visited York - and should you go to a part of England outside London I can recommend it if only for the Minster and the Jorvik Center. I was lucky visiting a cruncher there and living with a friend of his and their hospitality and insight, knowledge and love of sharing of course made it an adventure in its own right. But York is a good bet - and you might even get the time for a trip to the Yorkshire Dales ... Anyway, I wish you a pleasant trip, it cannot be anything but interesting ![]() Eurozone means: You're not coming to Denmark ![]() - it also means 17 countries in 6 weeks minus the days in England - which is also not Eurozone Are you involved with Europe, the EU or the Eurozone at some level? Hi Little Mermaid, I don't know why I didn't get notified that there was a reply... Oh well. I think I will have a look at York and see if there is anything interesting there. Eurozone was a very broad definition. I thought Eurozone was any country in the European Union, regardless of whether they use the Euro currency... I think now I might be mistaken. So far on our list is Italy (Landing there), Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, France, possibly Greece. We don't want to be moving every second day, so we don't want to try to visit every country in Western Europe. Though we hadn't even thought of Denmark. Anything that comes recommended? |

Ken, I don't think you automatically get notified of replies on this Forum.
----------------------------------------There is a facility for picking favourite threads and to watch thread to be found when you click your "My Forum Profile". I shall not be able to explain how it works, tho, because I never used it. Croatia, most of France and Greece are places I did not visit - yet. I shall probably not be the best to advise you on Italy, either, but Rome - which probably is where you land - is brimming with places waiting for your visit: St. Peter's Church - you may get to see the Pope from the Piazza on a Sunday - the Vatican Museums, Pantheon, Forum Romanum, Colosseum the Trevi Fountain where Anita Ekberg got soaked in "La Dolce Vita" Castel San Angelo, Trastevere, Piazza Navone, the Spanish Stairs ... and maybe you could catch a soccer match if you are so inclined. The spectators are an attraction all by themselves :) Outside of Rome to the north you could choose Firenze - Florence - with unique art collections Pisa with the leaning tower, Milano with fashion boutiques and a beautiful cathedral, and/or Venice with its gondolas and canals. Napoli with the backdrop of Vesuvio, Pompeji and Sorrento and the entire Amalfi Coast with the romantic island of Capri to the south would be tempting also. Switzerland is beautiful everywhere. EDIT: Switzerland is not even a member of the EU, let alone a Eurozone county. You must use hard currency here: Swiss Francs Austria has the Alps to the west - Innsbruck is nestled there and is lovely and Vienna in the lowland of the Danube Valley is stuffed with wonderful buildings (some important ones along the Ringstrasse designed by Danish architect Theofilus Hansen) narrow streets, cafées Vienna style - don't miss the Sacher Torte - you could try a "fiakr" and you could try to procure tickets for an opera, operetta or concert - they sound better in Vienna ![]() ![]() ![]() In Denmark we have boatloads to see, however, January is just about the poorest pick of the year .... May I recommend you surf for tourist websites which can provide info in depth - pick the official ones, as you would do in the USA. Bon voyage, ken., have a safe trip - and don't forget to tell us all about it upon your return [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 9, 2012 11:57:48 PM] |
