Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

High Priority indicates that Boinc manager does not think it can finish all the WUs by their deadlines. Perhaps you have your cache set too high?

Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

Ah landolini,

I'm think to remember something about Linux and a display not showing the processor percentage due low resolution? Anyway:

1. what client version?
2. client been running all the time or with periods of interruption / part time?
3. is system date set correct?
4. does your BOINC message log show a line which says that there are Override prefs in effect?

Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

At 3 hours a day, it's well possible that the client concluded the job would not finish in time, so it was marked HP, which suspends work fetch until the condition is cleared. Just let it run till the end without interruption if you can.

Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

it looks like you have recently changed your preferences on the website ...

General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 03-Jul-2009 08:07:14)

please go your "My Grid" page, "Device Profiles", "Default" and let us know what you have set your Workunit Cache settings to ... 2-3 days extra work is good. If you set it for a large number, bigger than about 7 (max is 10) you may find that it pulls more work than you can finish in time which is where it looks like you are now. After you turn your cache settings down, let you PC run for an extra couple hour to clear the "High Priority" situation, or better yet leave it running 24/7 biggrin

Steve

Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

The story was probably that landolini saved his profile again in despair to get the 100% Processor use going, the option he could not see on his display. 0.3 and 0.0 are the old defaults for caching AFAICR.

Now that my computer is working for more than 4 hours ... the process began to work as usual ... OK, thanks.

Re: Why my tasks are running in ...

The following info is not specifically for landolini since s/he said the problem is fixed, but it can interest anybody wondering why their client is switching to high priority mode much earlier than needed, particularly with rush jobs or after a longer WU has considerably increased the estimated durations of all queuing WUs.

I have discovered recently after a long discussion with Ingleside that the scheduler takes care of the "Switch between applications every xx minutes" parameter to estimate if it can complete a task in time, even if it is attached only to WCG, although that does not seem very logical in this case.

For whatever reason I had put a very high value in this field (equivalent to 5 days) and every rush job was immediately started in high priority mode after downloading. After reducing this value to 3600 (2.5 days) rush jobs are waiting normally in my client (which returns all jobs in less than one day anyway).

For what it's worth... Jean.
