Stats sanity check

With the maintenance for today complete, just wondering if all the servers have the correct time? biggrin There's been a knack for that getting reset by the process to local time instead of UTC and the end of day stats get messed up.

Re: Stats sanity check

See recent posts by pcwr. WCG has been testing to get all the clients in sync with the servers. So far trials have completely overshot target. BTTF 4

confused confused confused Sek, I was referring to the WCG servers. The last 2-3 times the admins have done maintenance updates on them, it seems that the server time gets reset to local time (US ET) instead of UTC. As a result, the stats at the end of the day either don't run properly, completely or at all. As I recall, Kevin mentioned that they were trying to figure out what in the update process was resetting the server clock. I would suspect that they probably have double checked the clock setting, if only to not have to spend their evening fixing the problem again.

Re: Stats sanity check

Gee Willy keithhenry, what else was I referring to than the server skipping 5 hours ahead to local time rather than sticking to UTC ;?

Is it US ET or Canadian EDT... think Kevin mentioned it in one of his posts.

Oh well. What I found by pcwr seemed to talk about the time getting changed on user machines. I suppose similarly to how you conceptually "translate" English to Italian, I do English to Southern. Add senility and a dash of old age and what I get out of my brain at any given time can get interesting to say the least. At least the family still laughs at it - for now.

All moot now as things are fine. I'm sure Kevin is enjoying not having to deal will upgrade problems.

Re: Stats sanity check

There were 'stats problems' last evening. Anyone notice?

Here is an example

Yesterday - 22,631
(Team/Individual Boinc 'Total Credit). Multiply that by 7 and you have (supposedly) 158,417 UD points instead of 312,332 UD points that was actually made. I'm glsd this type of problem does not occur too many times at the WCG. wink

I mean, those stats were not even close by a mile.

Re: Stats sanity check

What did you look at, the WCG stats team page or an external site? On one 3rd party site I noticed a long expired timestamp, as if midnight stats were not imported.

Sekerob, just take a look at our Team Recruiting thread. I explained otthere. It could be a rare Free-DC Stats thing due to IBM's early refresh. I am not sure. The stats were borked though.

Re: Stats sanity check

yup, we didn't get the fresh export yesterday evening in time..

Run times for stats - you can see it was at 00:04

Stats poll on a loop looking for updated tables.xml and download/process accordingly. It's not datetime driven though for many different reasons so occasionally, even if the files are downloaded before midnight, they may process upto 30mins afterwards if something else intensive is occurring in the same loop and this can occasionally push them past the daily rollover.

Unfortunately it's impossible to handle every situation :)

Bok, is this problem (which happened again last evening - individual scores now doubled) due to what IBM is or not doing with their XML (or other) tables, etc?

The doubling of "Indivual stats" could be a good sign, This has happened before at Free-DC and then the next day, everything was working normally. wink

I was hoping/am hoping that an IBM Tech (only) would respond here.

I am surprised that they have not. CA's, please do not take offense at the wanting of an IBM Tech to post here. Their answers are exacting and to the point. Well, there answers should be. They are IBM Techs! biggrin
