Is there a section of the website that explains who owns the data that is being processed and who/how it can be accessed?
The type of information I want to find out is: Who owns the data? Will the raw data be released? Are there any restrictions on the data once released, i.e. are there provisions to ensure that it be used by other researchers (or anybody for that matter) around the world? Basically, I want to be able to grade the programs by their commitment to sharing the data and results so that I can make sure my CPU cycles will be used for, and available to share with all of humanity. For example, I recognise that some universities now have departments that specialise in commercialisation of research/technology - will the data/resulting technology be sold off via a patent, thus locked away? Also, it is possible that some programs could be funded by commercial interests, interests that may require control of data in exchange for funding, and interests that I may not be supportive of or agree with. This is may not be the case, however a lack of information on this subject means we can't tell. Where can I find this information? Is there a central page that lists this, or can the policies of each program be made available? Cheers, vW |

Perhaps a better discussion relating to the project data and the fact it is in the public domain can be seen here in the instructions for an actual project proposal: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewSubmitAProposal.do
