As WCG seems to have been targeted by spammers today is it worth suggesting that only those who have returned work units can post in the forums? That way if someone is that determined to post spam they'll at least have contributed to WCG in the process.

A really good idea, except this prevents anyone having difficulty in joining from seeking help.

A really good idea, except this prevents anyone having difficulty in joining from seeking help. Most forum software allows you to set up access controls to their subforums. If every forum but one is closed to people who haven't returned a work unit (leaving that one open to everyone in case there is someone with a problem registering/doing a work unit) that should take care of most of the spam. That one open forum would also make it easier on the Mods to look for it as there would only be one place that they would have to check. Just my 2% of a $ on tweaking a good idea. |

That's true, however I didn't go read that thread until after I posted in this one
.Spam really isn't that big of a problem here, but it would be nice if there was a solution that didn't require staring at them for hours on end. Giving the CA's a little bit of administrative power (letting them delete/edit threads) is something that I assumed that they already had. If they've been given the trust to help out people here, it shouldn't cause too much mental strain to decide to give them a little bit more. If an Admin can't be bothered to show up for many hours after being alerted by many emails* that there is a problem on the board then something needs to change. Giving responsible people who are here seemingly all the time the ability to do something seems like the easiest solution. *many probably - I know I sent one |
