How to fetch more tasks manually?

Hi all,

my computer is working 24 hours for Boinc, or at least I would like, but the network availability is limited in a way that Boinc cannot communicate during the night.

The issue is that Boinc is not so smart to fetch in advance enough work to spend all the night working (for example, this night the first CPU finished at 22 hrs, and the second at 02 am).

Question: there is a way to set Boinc to fetch more work manually? Basically, in the late afternoon, my Boinc would need to fetch 4 new tasks in the way he would be never idle.

Thank you in advance for your help
L.

Re: How to fetch more tasks manually?

Hello Latakia
Boinc is smart enough to fetch WU in its cache for many days.
You have only to tell it, usually using the device profile on your WCG grid page.
Especially if your PC is crunching for boinc regularly (and accurately) you can set a cache for 1 or 2 days in order that your computer will not run "dry" anymore.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: How to fetch more tasks manually?

Than you Yves for the answer, but I'm encountering difficulties to manage the device profile.

I've choosen the custom, but after I save always the flag is going back to maximize output; also I updated my boinc but it didn't download any additional work unit, so seems the cache I set didn't go through.

Can you please explain me the right steps to follow?

Thank you again
L.

Re: How to fetch more tasks manually?

Thanks, now I understand.

Now that I increased the cache of the Work unit, Boinc will ask for more work automatically?

This because now I updated and it is not fetching, exactly like before.

Thank you
L.

Re: How to fetch more tasks manually?

Is there a line in your message log that reads:

30/07/2009 09:18:37 Reading preferences override file

If so, open the BOINC Manager advanced menu > preferences and hit the clear button. This way the web prefs take effect for all associated devices.

Make sure to set in the 'activity' menu the 'run based on preferences'.
