what are these numbers appearing as results.. ?
Why can't we view those "results"...? Are we ever going to see something like "thanks to all the crunching done by the WCG or any project" we were able to provide a possible cure or understand a problem much better.. OR are we just blindly diverting our cpus to whatever we are blindly computing.. made to beelieve we are doing something towards those causes.. Or.. hypothetically and jokingly.. it's all just a huge database of computers crunching the next biological war target.. and various computer generated simulations.. that we'll never see.. because we'll be dead and we helped them kill us.. There isn't much suggesting what we are doin is having a positive real influence.... so is there anything quantifying the "resultS" much better and making them real? other then our stats? which dont make them real.. but is handy any examples already present? ![]() |

pazsion,
----------------------------------------How much time have you spent looking around the whole WCG site?, in particular the "Reaearch" pages - as there, there's a whole amount of information regarding not only the current projects, but the ones that, as far as we're concerned, we've finished 'crunching'. Also, on a regular basis, the various different projects scentists do visit the forums and update us on what is happening (indeed, I do believe that there is a FAQ index, which highlights the last comments from each of those project scientists). Unfortunately, although the work that we're all collectively doing to speed things up, science still does take time to test, retest and come up with valid results. ![]() |

hey thx for the replies guys.. the reason i made a thread was because i wasn't satisfied by what i found doing a search.. which always "came back as no results found, please use less... or more... words.." Keyword at the time was "results" now when i search i find only my post =/
which is why i asked for a link to an example.. and yea i know these things take time, the research. We spend countless hours looking through various forums for various things.. as well as e-mails etc.... So when someone is nice and thoughtful enough to do this.. it is encourageing.. When people make a simple, short.. here look at this section.. and expect you to look through every single link there.. when it's not what your curious about.. it's frustrating and a complete waste of time.. As I am simply looking for any research that we have collectively finished, which produced real word results.. a pill , a new way of thinking, more un answered questions.. etc.. this would maybe be easy.. But i'll take a look.. drag back something i find interesting. maybe we could find more related... ![]() |

maybe we have some sort of mis understanding here.. as to what qualifies as a result..
Meaning number one: number crunching results and work units compiled.. and noted in threads I DO SEE..although useful in seeing my progress with an unfinished project.. this does nothing to inspire me to continue useing such a program.. and now "results" search returns almost every post on this site.. thanks to signatures and such containing words like Work unit and Results.. But this is not what i'm looking for... Meaning number 2: Like for example with africa climate@home.. the graphics in it's final stages (the completed research of our collective efforts, and thusly named "product") should be public atleast to the WCG members and contributers.. And we should be able to play them back anytime.. In effect The final outcome or "result" of the first phase of this project.. in a viewable media.. cause we can watch it build on our screensavers.. but never get to see the final product.. This is something i am addamately following, the climate in general.. I would like to know what attributes are being calculated.. how are they effecting what i would see in a 3d image.. How much of what is influenceing other influences.. for example: Does introduceing a new predator change things drastically? or does it allow time for all animals and plant life to adapt to it being there.. >> Is this even part of what we are computeing in a climate model?? which would be a set number of things that project leaders include in the dataset to calculate.. which in turn we loyally crunch.. to give.. ?? .. a product to play with.. but we get nothing but more projects and more crunching.. I just want something to relate to OUR hours of crunching.. news articles.. products or research, theorys.. NOT morenumbers stateing that more numbers were crunched.. and that this many people are now apart of it and that these people now have X ammount of WU.. Altough i find these useful.. again they do not inspire me to get others involved.. or dedicate more computers to it.. other then the fact that it needs to be done somehow.. and sooner rather then later// no i haven't read all the posts in this forum.. So i am still in need of some educating.. but only finding people pointing fingers.. and saying nothing.. ![]() |

Hi pazsion,
I think that you would be better off reading the project websites. Every project maintains one. We have links in our Research section in each project description on the website. FightAIDS@Home has the most organized web site at http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/ with 7 newsletters. Most project sites have a lot less information, although NRW links into more than a decade of what I could describe as 'scientific blogging'. Lawrence |
