I had a little break from WCG on my one computer for a couple weeks due to some technical issues, but now I cannot get my BOINC agent to connect to the internet. There is no firewall and to make sure I tested it on 2 other friends networks and it still would not connect to get work.
Are there any suggestions? I am running BOINC 6.2.18 on an Intel Macbook. I tried 6.6.36 as well and it didn't work. As I said no firewall or proxy server, and internet connection is solid. Any help would be appreciated! I am losing my place! Jamie |

If you post the message log for the start of one session and the messages that are most likely listed in this log when it fails to connect that might help us to see what is wrong.

When I try to connect to WCG on BOINC I get this message:
Network communication failure: BOINC failed to communicate on the Internet. The most likely Reasons are: 1) Connectivity Problem 2) Personal Firewall is blocking BOINC 3) You are using a Proxy Server. It then gives a couple possible solutions to it but other than that it doesn't tell me more. As I said I have good connectivity since I can post here no problem, not using a personal firewall or proxy server. Tried it on several networks but BOINC fails to communicate. I uninstalled and re-installed 6.6.36 and 6.2.18 with no success. If you have suggestions I'd be open to them. Jamie |

Jamie,
----------------------------------------Do you mean that Boinc is stalling so early that you have no message log to pass to us? There should be messages which can help us to start digging into your problem, even if they don't look significant for you. Network problems can be so diverse that without this log we can only do guesses in the dark, which is very inefficient. Blank out the account name if it is what worries you. Cheers. Jean. |

Is there any help for this problem? I still can't connect my computer to BOINC. Does anyone know how to debug this problem?

Hello jamie.kotlewski,
I uninstalled and re-installed 6.6.36 and 6.2.18 with no success. If you have suggestions I'd be open to them. I don't have a Macintosh. so I feel daunted. This type of network problem is quite unusual. I have 2 suggestions. 1) Retitle your first post with 'Mac problem:' This may attract help from a Mac network enthusiast. 2) Post a query on the BOINC site at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/ Try to get help from somebody more knowledgable than myself. Unfortunately this is not an easy problem to fix when you get hit by it.
----------------------------------------After googling on Mac AND "BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration" I have found this thread in Berkeley's Boinc forum No Internet Connection Error Considering the number of gurus who have participated and the reason still being unclear it is not much encouraging. However you might use the (currently) last post of that thread by GlobalCitizen as a checklist to help you. I quote it below: Sounds like a firewall or router misconfiguration issue. It's really hard to diagnose these things through back and forth forum postings; easiest would be to have a tech-savvy friend (besides yourself) come and have a look at your network setup. There are also the BOINC volunteer helpers, who can give one-on-one help via Skype. Things to check for: 1. Are you able to surf the Internet without issue from these PCs? If so, port 80 is fine. 2. Is there any firewall software installed on these PCs? If so, make sure it allows BOINC access on all ports, or disable it (at least for testing). 3. You shouldn't have to configure your router to allow ports 80 and 443, unless you've specifically blocked all ports and need to open (stealth) them. I use a router at home, and didn't have to touch anything after installing BOINC. You might have not configured those ports correctly. 4. Does your Internet connection use a proxy configuration? (you can check this by looking at your web browser's connection settings) 5. If all the above fails, you can try the "debug" settings that Ageless detailed above, and give us some debug messages to work with. GlobalCitizen Good luck. Jean. |

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Unfortuantly I have not been able to fix it. I'll walk through the suggestions.
1. I can connect to the internet and download content no problem. 2. No firewalls. 3. Checked ports, nothing is going on there. I even upgraded the firmware on my Router in case there was a problem there. 4. No Proxy. 5. Debug looked more for Windows than Mac. Looking through my BOINC messages I noticed something though. Could there be a problem with my Libraries? Also I looked up the Data directory and there was no BOINC Data folder.

Hello jamie.kotlewski,
You have been busy. You are using a new libcurl and the libcudart library missing is a new message. It had nothing to do with the old problem. Now that you know the latest version is not the answer, you might be better off using an older version that is not missing any libraries. Sorry I do not have any solutions. Lawrence |
