I'm very impressed by all you guys who crunch away at your own expense. I'm one of those who took it upon himself to install BOINC/WCG on any server I was ever given access to that didn't already have it -- and only THEN tell the other users I'd done it. I never had to take it off again and only ever got one complaint (and, even then, the user just learned to pause crunching when they needed to 'cos they agreed it was a worthwhile thing to do).
But today I retired, so my scores are unlikely to come down much further as I'm sure the machines will slowly be retired too. Still, I got down below the 1000 mark in the points rank about a week ago and that leaves me with a sense of achievement. And I've still got an advert for WCG in my mail footer in the continuing search to gain new volunteers. Now I just need to figure out if I can afford to use electrical heating in my home office... |

A very astute way to use available crunching power. Excellent strategy. Still, I got down below the 1000 mark in the points rank about a week ago and that leaves me with a sense of achievement. You will now have even a much greater sense of achievement when you will contribute exclusively on your own efforts and from your pocket. Maybe ranking will be different but with your contribution whatever it is we will reach in 2011 the 500 TFlop objective. Be careful it can be very addictive.   |

As there are no new official badges at least for sometime, I built my own with 3dsmax, as an engraved diamond gemstone for 50 CPU years. I integrated it in my forum signature.
----------------------------------------I stand now at 59 years and by tomorrow should hit 60. Next badge will be at 100 years. I have not decided yet what kind of object that could be but for sure more precious than diamond. Any ideas? |
