Re: Members Current Ranking

Well,
Hopefully something new comes out (not that I'm going to stop crunching)
In 45 days or so I should have all sapphires that are active,
including Dengue if they send out some more...
Come on CEP2 for windoze

Re: Members Current Ranking

Yesterday was a major record day for me. smile

With 706'258 points I broke the Teraflop per day limit. My previous daily record was of 689'986 some months ago, but it was an exceptional value as my daily average was much lower. It was the megaflush effect. This time it is a more stable configuration with averages over 600'000 ppd.

I also broke the number of CPU days per day record with 169 CPU days. Past value was 165. Not yet Ruby in a day but not far.

I also improved the ranking and are now at #139. I must admit it becomes harder and harder to go up the ranks ladder. It is amazing to see how some resistances appear at certain ranks. After analyzing things it seems that on the upper ranks say Top 200 there are three type of crunchers:

1) The untouchables. These are those which are say the Top 12 or say above 1 Million per day. These are also to be found in the top All Time ranks. This combination makes them inacessible to an individual cruncher like myself. They have little impact in the overall ranking change as they are basically static inside their group. Due to their very high daily output the distance with the others can only increase.

2) Then we have the big daily crunchers that are let's say the top 50 in the daily output. These are not necessarily at the same rank in the top all-time and can be much lower in ranking, as they have started later 2007-08-09 and have a large distance to travel.

3) Then we have those who started very early in 2004-05 and cumulated a high total but either do not contribute at all anymore or do but with a small daily output. They are distributed all over the 50 to 200 ranks. This means that they have static resistance positions until somebody reaches them.

A very interesting mix that makes it difficult to predict when ranks improve. Boinc gives you the overtaking calculations and estimations but the daily output can vary wildly for a give cruncher (holidays, high temperatures, change of hardware, personal issues etc. ect.) in both directions so it makes it all very impredictable and more fun. biggrin

P.S
I have to update my signature below but will not be able to do it before next week.

Thanks mikaok. You are right the cost is not negligible, but I feel that the money spent to contribute to WCG can benefit the society as a whole. After all the money we earn does come in a way or another from the society itself, and it is right that some of it be donated for a cause that can be beneficial to her. smile

Re: Members Current Ranking

major props Hypernova, just make sure you don't go supernova on us. Honestly anything over 500k in terms of points is already a major achievement. So what is your goal, to reach top 20 or just top 50? I hope one day to reach top 100, but at current rate it will take me about 2 yrs.

Frankly I do not know. Only time will tell. To be in the Top 50 would be nice.
In fact I have another target which is difficult but feasible. I have still available seven i7 950 CPU's that I have replaced over the last year by 980X CPU's. One of these 950 should be online next week as the EUROPA device. If I add the crunching power of all these remaining CPU's to what I already have I should be able to reach the 1 million points per day. biggrin That is the real ultimate target and the absolute maximum that is doable for me at least before comes a new generation of Intel CPU's with even more cores and better energy efficiency. This lavel of output will only be possible during the coldest days in winter for cooling reasons.
I refuse to invest and spend money for air conditioned systems and their electrical consumption, just for cooling. That money is better spent for crunching. The only useful effort is to improve cold and hot air flow. It seems to me completely absurd to use energy to destroy energy. In winter I use the heat of my systems to heat the basement which is completely underground and so cooler than the rest of the house. smile

Re: Members Current Ranking

Recently went past 4M Boinc Points (28M WCG Points):

Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 33:308:21:47:42 (#863)
Points Generated (Rank) 28,029,293 (#697)
Results Returned (Rank) 54,901 (#753)

Points rank is still buoyant just under the 700 mark.
