Ranking of what? As there are 3 different rankings it seems meaningless to me! Top right of every page when you're logged in gives your "Current Ranking" Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 8:150:23:13:14 (#3,386) Points Generated (Rank) 6,081,608 (#2,341) Results Returned (Rank) 18,977 (#1,444) And the BOINC Rank is another story.....  Top of my page says: Welcome Back, gordoma Accumulated Points: 4,069,526 Current Ranking: 4,011 ...that's where I'm taking mine from. 4,011 is a bit of a jump for me. That's unexpected given my expected decline. With the "WCG points" being an accumulation of both the old UD points and an assigned UD points value to the BOINC credits, it's probably the best guage of the rank. When everything is transferred over to BOINC credits, I would imagine the ranks would remain the same as everyone would have their WCG (UD) points divided by 7. Some might argue that CPU time is a better indicator as it's less inferred and is what the badges are based on, but I'm happy to stick with the measure that WCG choose to use for this purpose. |

If the Rankings are based on points, why give badges based on time? Seems point less to me!

Mine seems to be slipping. Don't think I'll ever make it to the top 500. As long as I stay in the top 1000 I will be happy.

Indeed... but again, it's probably something that would have been done on points if the whole UD points/BOINC credits debate had been sorted out before their introduction. I'm not sure that basing the badges on CPU time necessarily focuses on the key measurement... should be rank and badges for one OR the other definitely! I'm up to 4,001 today on points, so maybe I'll hit the 3,000s tomorrow? (I'm 2,018 on CPU time... I wonder if the top 2,000 might be in my sight?) |
