Hi,
I'm currently proposing a project to implement WCG in the company I work for. We have an intranet consisting in 30 workstations (and 1 server) that the software could be run on. How could our support guy install it: 1. in machines all at once (or it's necessarry to install in each machine separately?) 2. and make the program run whatever the user/login that is being used, since each workstation is operated by multiple users with different logins and passwords. Please, give me the instructions step-by-step cause we've installed the software as a service and it appears only to system administrator. Thanks, Antonio Dieb |

If you install as a service, then anyone with the correct permissions to run BOINC Manager can manage it - but once set up, it will run continuously whoever is logged in (or not).
For 30 workstations, it may be quickest to just install manually. However, you can install using Group Policy if you prefer. I'm sure you have more questions. Ask away! |

The system administrator have already installed it as a service, but when he logs out, no one who logs in after him and don't have administrator permissions can visualize the BOINC icon tray and so we think that the service mode installation is not functioning if other operator except the adminitrator logs in.
Everyone in our team is anxious to participe too. Thank you Antonio Dieb |

That's correct, AntonioDieb. The BOINC notification area icon should only be visible for people with permission to manage BOINC. So most users shouldn't see it. This stops people fiddling with your settings or stopping BOINC.
Ask your system administrator to check what processes are running: boinc.exe is the service - this should always be running. boincmgr.exe is the BOINC Manager (the tray icon). You can start and stop BOINC Manager without affecting the service. wcg_* - these processes are the science applications. They should be using a lot of CPU time. If you want other people to be able to see what World Community Grid is doing, then any user should be able to use the screensaver. Just select it in the Windows screensaver options. Hope this clarifies things a little. N.b. If your system administrator is still uncertain, try this: 1. Log in as administrator, and look at the messages in BOINC Manager. It will show the BOINC startup time, and everything that has been done since. There should be a message saying "Running as a daemon". 2. Log out. Optionally, log in as a normal user. 3. Wait a while. 4. Log back in as administrator, and look at the messages again. It should show the same startup time as before, and continuous activity up to the current time. |

Should go without saying, but
----------------------------------------"They should be using a lot of the otherwise wasted idle CPU time." There are settings though that even with an service/all-user, modifications to BOINC setup is not permitted to include a lock-in to only access via the Simple View, whilst the admin from a remote device should still have full BOINC Manager access, if that has interest.

Hopefully I will be able to resolve an outstanding issue here. I started with the WCG back in the days before WCG became a Boinc project. After the conversion to the Boinc client all went well - except I've changed e-mail accounts, but not my team and have tried to consolidate two WCG user names into my Primary Boinc user name. I have a nobodyii and a nobodyV that I want to change to nobody of the International High IQ Society. When I try to change nobodyv to nobody I'm informed that that user already exists. It does - nobody in my team is running multiple boinc projects on multiple machines, I'm just trying to consolidate these two usernames and credits into my existing active account.
Are these usernames tracked by e-mail address and teams? If you can offer suggestions as to how to consolidate my last two orphan Boinc usernames I would appreciate it. Thank you. |

Merging accounts, speak transferring the credit of one account to the other is not possible. The most you can do is choose the account with the most credit and through a multistep renaming cycle for that to become your main account. You'll have to attach the clients to the account of choice.
----------------------------------------Still, if you give all these accounts the same team and email registration they will consolidate at some 3rd party BOINC statistics sites.

You can't merge accounts, but if the email addresses are identical then third party statistics sites (but not BOINCstats, they have a bug) will merge the statistics for you.

I have one account showing on boincstats of my email with one of theses orphan usernames. What are the multistep processes to change this username from nobodyv to nobody? |

nobody -> tempnobody
nobodyv -> nobody tempnobody -> nobodyv (This swaps the names. Maybe you have a different goal in mind?) |
