Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

gb009761 the reason why I mentioned IBM it is right because they contribute already to WCG and so I hope to get a rebate. Let's say a friends rebate like 99.9996%. biggrin

Regarding Bill Gates you are right in theory, but as you also know he is now devoting full time on his foundation. So maybe he would be willing to chip a small million (still to spend even after the friendly rebate), disregarding lowly materialistic and commercial issues. Who knows..... praying

Reached the second of five Milestones this month: 4 years of HCC. While it is not a badge, I hope there will be a badge by the time I get to 5 years.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

You would think that bill gates and other rich people would have like 20 I7's crunching away, but as far as I know there aren't too many rich people who buy computers to dedicate to grid crunching. Anyone know more about this? I'm thinking about upgrading from the I7 to the I9 just for crunching even though I can barely afford it.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

Bill Gates has not only donated BILLIONS of his personal fortune and along with heading the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Pages/home.aspx has also convinced other people to donate large sums of money, most notably Warren Buffet.
How would we know if they are crunching anyway? Maybe they already are wink

Never thought of that. As everybody is talking about cloud computing, you'd guess WCG is full of IT celebrities

I'm not a fan of donating actual cash because you never know where the money actually ends up. I'd be much more impressed if like I said, he and other people had a room(or building) of a bunch of high powered computers crunching.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

zeni7, I am trying to fulfill your wish even if I am not part of the rich celebrities, or billionaire club.
I am slowly filling up half a small room I have in my basement with PC's devoted to WCG. I mean small about 6 m2 of which 3 m2 are accessible to me. The rest is for moving around and other stuff for the family. At the moment I have 5 CPu's in there. Others will follow in te future.
Some of you may ask what about the heat and ventilation as the machines run non stop 24/24 7/7. Excellent question. We are in winter and outside at the moment the air is at -5 Celsius or 23 Fahrenheit. Just opening a little a small window I have in there I get the best airconditioning in the world with 0 carbon emission.
In summer time I may have some problems though. Not tested yet.
The other trouble I had only one power plug in this small room and the available power was on the house grid were many other things are also connected. Result the fuse blew up and all lights and whatever else went out in the complete basement of my house. Had some negative reactions of my wife. Now I had the electrician install a new direct line with 6kW power available and a separate fuse. Should hold for some time. But in the end I may have to add some forced ventilation or cooling, we'll see.
