Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

almost 12 cpu years for HCC here, sadly there is no 10 year badge

Or a 5 year badge
Ah, if and when new badges are created, I assume that they will continue the doubling-system. That would give me a 4-year badge and two 8-year badges right away. To get a 16-year badge will take more crunching though, considering 44 processoryears are being spread over 15 projects. It might be fun to have as target though.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

So who needs to be contacted to make new badges? When multi-core cpus get cheaper and more people have them, 2 years of time will go by fast.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

About the new badges: it has been discussed on the boards before so the people who should know already do. Every now and again the topic pops up.

Anyway, and this is important to know, WCG does not like to make their planning public. They may occasionally suggest certain things to happen in the future but that is the exception and not the rule. The best is to be patient. To wait. To be patient a bit longer. And then to be surprised when, all of a sudden, you get what you ask for. Also, check out the information you get from Techs and Mods.

Of course, you can continue crunching in the meantime wink

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

Simply using the search function of this forum I have found this
In 2010 we'll probably add one or two more badges.
from the most "authorized" member of the staff.
So, not much need to worry. The only unknown info is which level(s) and when. smile

Just be patient. Jean.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

One of the things that has long been on the development list and is looking likely in 1Q 2010 is the ability for members to print 'certificates'. Certificates will be awarded based on total contribution to World Community Grid. We intend to scale the certificates to much higher levels then we currently have for the badges. There is much planning to do, but we are considering having at least one certificate level be above what anyone has yet contributed (a likely certificate level would be something like 1 month, 2 months, 5 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, 100 years, 200 years, 500 years, 1000 years, 2000 years, 5000 years). However, that is conceptual planning only and is almost certain to change before we release. Only 3 people would currently make the 2000 year cutoff and no-one would currently make the 5000 year cutoff.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Badge discussion

knreed I think such certificates is an excellent idea. applause
Make them nice in colour with all the badges at print time.
I target the 5000 year one so I am sure to devote my entire lifetime to crunching.

I have a better idea idea . Let's call IBM and buy a Roadrunner at full scale. Should get the 5000 years certificate in a few days. peace

But first I have to convince Bill Gates. peace

Why call IBM - they're already VERY aware of World Community Grid, after all, it is they who run it. Also, why would you call Bill Gates - as he works for a different company that could well be classed as a competitor to IBM...
