Re: Netbooks

My expectations aren't that high, but I had to try this with my Samsung NC10.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that this Atom N270 knows hyper threading! So it's not doing just one, but two wu's at the same time!!

The power consumption meter is attached and is now showing, with screen turned off, ratings from 29 to 33 W. The meter is a bit inaccurate with small loads and is showing slightly below real consumption ratings (there's can be an 15 % inaccuracy).

The processor is at 50 °C (both "cores") with BOINC set to work 90 % of the processor time, and the notebook is now crunching two Rice wu's. The experiment just started, I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Netbooks

The 24h test run with Atom N270 is over and here are the results.

The meter shows total of 530 watts from 24 hours, so that's 22 watts per hour.

Results 6
Points Granted 1,029
Task Runtime 0:001:18:21:00

Total Runtime 0:001:19:01:00 (approximately)
Wall Clock Time 0:001:00:00:00 biggrin

At least this machine is perfect for gaining some CPU time in NRW coffee

cheers

Re: Netbooks

mikaok, instead of the BOINC yoyo control that the CPU% of time is, on off on off, at 90% 9 seconds running, 1 second pausing, try TThrottle for BOINC. Set it to 50C or 51C... whatever temp you're comfortable with and BOINC will be controlled to never exceed that temp... at night you might then effectively get 100% crunching :o)

Personally, think at 90% and 50C it will barely make a difference to switch to 100%, in temps, and a little bit more juice use. If you look at the temp curve which you can make with TThrottle, when it's not controlling the BOINC operation, you'll see a kind of saw-tooth profile.

Re: Netbooks

Sekerob, good notice. Performance tested tells just the general performance of N270, not the maximum of it. As everything was set to stock settings, or as close as possible, and by using 90 % CPU time setting, same test can be repeated with any other machine, in any time of the year or day.

Also, notice concerning the HT and overall performance, BOINC would probably benefit from doubling the memory from 1GB to 2GBs.
