I wonder if the Grid Server is more intelligent than I first thought? Among my devices allocated to WCG I have a laptop, a PC whose primary task is hosting a CCTV multi-camera system, several machines that are dedicated to WGC exclusively, and a PC that I use for all my "normal" computing. All my devices are permanently available to the WCG project.
I've noticed that my laptop usually gets quite short work units of just a few hours, whereas the devices that are allocated exclusively to WCG amost always get really big work units lasting several days. The other two PC's get a real mixture of work units from very short to very long. I accept that the exclusively-dedicated PC's are less powerful (73% score) than my other devices (107-120% score), but I have taken this into account when making my judgement. Is it possible that the server deliberately allocates work units that it feels are most suited to the device in question? David. |

Hello davidhobbs,
Apparently your experience is just chance. Some months back a staff post said that there was no selection of work units for computers, and I have never read a post announcing a change in this policy. mycrofth |
