Hi. The agent failed royally this evening, producing "computation error" status for all 5 WUs that were in my system, including a couple I had logged serious CPU time on. After that, I was unable even to open the Task Manager--something was clearly up, as though all RAM was sapped or something (though I couldn't check this). I rebooted. When I went to the Event Viewer to see what had been the cause of this madness, the entire Application Event Log was corrupt and unviewable and had to be cleared.
----------------------------------------I looked at the error messages in the WCG Results Status and recognized familiar language from a couple other instances of problems in the past, "Failure to open checkpoint," though none of those other instances were more serious than wasting some WUs. What would be causing this to happen and recur? I'm running a dual-core XP laptop. Could it be from overheating? The royale failure is this:
----------------------------------------- exit code -1073741523 (0xc000012d) Not seen or found this error reported on WCG before, but this is a killer and most probably a system/os problem. edit: a quick oogle shows this is a system resource issue only reported once before in all of the BOINC project world. RICE jobs are small! Do you have multiple large jobs held in memory. The client message log might tell something (stdoutdae.txt).

Ay, that sounds terrible!
Pretty sure this has happened to me once or twice before, but again it just ruined WUs those times and didn't gork my whole system. Can't confirm, though, because stdoutdae and app event log are gone from that time period. I definitely only had 4 RICE WUs and one FAAH WU in the system, nothing too big. Stdoutdae definitely looks interesting though--I have appended the relevant portion (all non-usual events surrounding the crash) below. See the culprit?? One comment in the one case I found was something about the AV interfering. Better exempt the BOINC data_dir from being scanned.
