Stats -> Devices

A totally trivial topic. biggrin

Would it be better to show "Boinc devices" when WCG report the the number of devices in the global statistics.

My Grid reports 18 devices when actually only 3 are active. It it makes me look good smile but it is misleading. This happened mostly because I used multiple slots with the United-Devices program when it was used a while ago.

One wonders how accurate the global stats -> Devices are.

Since UD is not used anymore it might be better to exclude all UD slots from the global stats -> Devices, and call it "Boinc Devices" or "report devices that have been active in the last 90 days and report as "Active Devices".

Re: Stats -> Devices

the reason they dont get rid of extra old and duplicat cliants is a few reasons

1) takes time to figure out this is a duplicate
2) dont hurt the process of finding cures
3) geting support... we have 1,306,072 computers and 462,181 members (ad of 6/5/09) this looks better to people who dont understant computers well rather than we have the processing power of computers and how ever many terabit processer we equate to

4) with them not takeing out the old members / old devices there stats look better and who knows someone might come back

again with the duplicate entries.. its really hard to remove them without causing problems if they acidentaly remove a valid entry this costs time and money so its just easyer to keep it the way it is..

Re: Stats -> Devices

The device number is a total number of installations. It includes inactive devices as well as the old UD installations. It only includes installations that actually returned results. In most cases, reinstallations on the same computer are counted as one device - but this isn't guaranteed, and never happened for UD.

Your Device Manager page already filters out inactive devices.

An active device count has been repeatedly requested. No doubt it will happen eventually. And by eventually, I mean that this was first requested many years ago.

Re: Stats -> Devices

.. as I said a trivial suggestion.

Maybe a better description or tooltip would help avoid propagating the unnecessary myth.
