Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Just a few 'reliable' devices to fall over and the gain is out the window, unless the deadlines are reduced accordingly.

Sekerob,

Your absolutely correct, and again I wasn't quite precise enough believing your statement to be intuitively obvious to the casual observer. But then, that's actually an implementation detail bounded by the constraints of the dispatcher system which I know JACK about.

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Queue depth: Rather than taking individual results, how much is the computation hours locked in? With my buffer setting and project choice it's a depth of 11 and hours locked in of ~90 hours (2.25 quad days). Few days ago it was ~140 hours. As said, there's a low mix in of rush jobs still coming this way.

edit: of course 0.9375 quad day equivalent.

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Sekerob,

My profile is set up so I have no additional WU's awaiting to be selected for execution until one of the WU's currently in execution is about to complete.

So if my calculations are correct, my system requests new work about 15 minutes before the WU currently in execution is about to end.

So my locked in work hours are very close to to the length of time for the sum of the anticipated completion time for the WUs. Ususally less than 6 hrs; however; because of timing; 4 wu's each requiring say 6 hrs of cpu time can end up consuming a full 23 combined hrs before I get 4 new WU's.

Right now, I have 4 WU's; all saying they require about 4 hrs each to complete. All of these WU's should complete within a total of about 8 minutes from the completion of the 1st WU to the 4th WU. Then it will be off to the races again wink

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Maybe we're talking different tongue. My PV jail is 11 results totally ~90 hours. Yours is how much?

edit: That's 0.9375 Quad day equivalent in PV.

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

So your unbuffered crunching yields half a quad day more PV than my buffered crunching, which BOINCview computes at present rDCF to be 2.83 days worth per core. Darn, you're doing better than I do, intuitively.

BarneyBadass, one simple question...

Once you've contributed to over 90+ CPU days to HCMD2, will you be staying with the project (i.e., is it dear to your heart), or will you be moving off onto another project/all projects?

BTW, and just so that you know, I've currently swapped away from this project onto HFCC & CEP (I'll be back soon though), just to give me a break from PV Purgatory...

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Sekerob,

Now you understand why I started this thread in the first place.

My PV jail just gets longer and longer and longer and ..... crying

To achieve these conditions; I set my preferences like this:

In theory, the above settings provide what I've monkeyed (yeah, that's a technical term wink ) around with to have the WU in my possession the shortest period of time.

I couldn't care less about the disk space consumed; I've got 2 TB HDD space to muck around with.

gb,

Truth be told, if there were a way to cause the settings to allow me to say, dedicate 2 CPU's to project x; 1 CPU to each projects Y & Z (such that I could always expect 2 CPU's to run WU's from Projectx and 1 WU each from project Y & Z, I'd run multiple projects for various reasons. (and yes this one has a special place for someone near and dear to me).

Without regard, even when I switch the settings off so it's a take whatever is available, I tend to end up in PV Purgatory because I'm requesting and getting frequently the newest WU's to run unless of course my system is dispatched makeup WU's or other kinds of high priority WUs.

On the other hand, I don't tend to sit and hover over my machine either. Its' a big, mature system and it can for the most part take care of itself (although the other day it did demand some of my assistance since it decided to chew it's way through a 750 Watt PSU!)

That answer it GB?

Re: Let's discuss this one more time

Monkeying is the right expression, Mr. Rubble. What on earth do you want to achieve with 18000 seconds of Write to Disk delay? Under client 6.6 that means that no checkpoint at all is being written to disk unless a task has one after 72000 seconds.
