OK - all changes made and accepted. After BOINC retstart I asked for an update and then waited for the 'communication deferred 24h' message before copying the mesage log. It looks like this:

Yummie, let me research a bit or maybe a code expert knows. Meantime go visit My Grid > My Projects and hit the all projects box. Don't like the No project chosen for workfetch. That's why it defers.
----------------------------------------Your work buffering default though are: 2009/06/23 07:16:04 PM [wfd] target work buffer: 8640.00 + 43200.00 sec 0.1 day connect and 0.5 days cache

Also this one is not likeable:
----------------------------------------2009/06/23 07:16:04 PM [wfd] CPU: shortfall 51840.00 nidle 1.00 est. delay 0.00 RS fetchable 0.00 runnable 0.00 This tells WCG is owed time, but 2009/06/23 07:15:59 PM World Community Grid [sched_op_debug] Reason: 17 consecutive failures fetching scheduler list it's not connecting properly

2009/06/23 03:11:44 PM Starting BOINC client version 6.6.36 for windows_intelx86 6.6.36 is not supported by WCG..... And 6.2.28 isn't supported by SETI@home, since it's a waste of time to support something only 0.10% of users is running... But, getting back to the problem, AFAIK there's only 3 reasons for a 24-hour deferral: 1; Unsupported platform, not the case here since windows_intelx86 is supported. 2; Too old BOINC-client, not the case here since v6.6.36 is the current BOINC-client. 3; Connection-problem to project-server. If you've got 10 failed scheduler-requests in a row, client will try re-downloading the "master file", and if this download fails, you'll get a 24-hour-deferral. A quick look on the supplied log, reveals that #3 is the culprit: 2009/06/23 07:15:59 PM World Community Grid [sched_op_debug] Deferring communication for 1 days 0 hr 0 min 0 sec So, any trouble-hunting will be to find out why can't connect, and one of the easiest things to try and that often fixes the problem, is to re-boot the computer. (edit) BTW, if my recollection isn't too fuzzy, before it was also possible to get 24-hour-deferral if not enough memory or not enough disk-space, but AFAIK this code was removed in case projects had different wu-types each with different requirements. While WCG's server-code is old, AFAIK it's not so old that this could be a reason... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." ----------------------------------------I have rebooted and tried again with the same result. There's no proxy settings, but is there no proxy? Mobile devices do suffer from this penomena when it's forgotten to be put back on or off.

Mobile devices do suffer from this penomena when it's forgotten to be put back on or off. Ah, if did the re-boot of computer, the next steps will in no particular order be to re-start any modems or routers or something, check any firewalls, check if correct proxy-settings... Hmm, in theory ping and tracert could be an idea, but it doesn't look like www.worldcommunitygrid.org answers on either of these so... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Hi team - here's a thing for you.
----------------------------------------I had been using a mobile phone internet connection through an AT&T client (been working for months - maybe even years). I closed the mobile connection and connected the laptop to my home ADSL router, and then asked for a WCG project update - a master scheduler file was downloaded and then came a stream of WUs, and all is working just fine. WOW - what now? Do I dare go back to the mobile connection - Well, I have to no later than tomorrow morning. Pleae let me know if you want to do any futher testing, and many thanks for your willingness to get involved - you're a great team to have on my side. RaulBonegio, I'm taking it that problem device Computer ID: 636635 is now working on jobs. If you have to use mobile connection and cant get it to work again, suggest to increase your additional buffer / cache to a size that allows to let it crunch off-line. Then periodically, flip the connection when you're near a regular connection for up / download of a new set of tasks. Not ideal, but how to fix your MPIC is beyond me... the things we do to keep crunching ;>)

Thanks Sekerob, I'll keep your recommendation up my sleeve. I have already cut back to the mobile connection, and all is working well (and one new WU has been downloaded), but your thinking is sound.
Once again, many thanks - now I can crunch some more. |
