Have you installed BOINC and is www.worldcommunitygrid.org attached to it? That's 99% of the work. You mention "My Projects" which you can open up via the My Grid page (see button right top of page). The My Projects link is in the left margin. Then choose your projects and save. The next time the client fetches new work will it get something you chose [except if no work is available for your choice]
