Multi Core

I was running boinc 5.10.45 on my dualcore and it was running flawlessly but now that i have changed to 6.2.28, it is running only on 1 core.
I have performed the benchmark and the result is that only 1 CPU was found.
On Advanced > Preferences > processor usage, i have choosed to "On multiprocessor system, use at most 100% of the processors".
Any idea?

Thanx.

Re: Multi Core

Hi,
I'm getting the same issue also, but I've found the solution on Boinc Forum

Apparently the parameter 'on multipprocessor system use almost' is

between 0-50% is using 0 CPU
between 50-99% is using 1 CPU
and at 100% it's using all the CPU available

So when I set back this value to 100% it's started using both core.

Re: Multi Core

Somewhere in the Start Here FAQ's I posted a matrix what happens with different percentages. The Web Device Profile does explain the difference of the old processor core selection for clients up to 5.10 and the % for client v 6. It's a headache for anyone who was not on 100% prior to upgrading.

Re: Multi Core

That is the point, this computer was formated and then i installed the 6.2.28, so it was not an upgrade from a previews version.

Re: Multi Core

Did you look in the website device profile, for that would not have changed?

Re: Multi Core

Hello Zigfried,
I do not know why you are using a local preferences file. If you went to My Grid - Device Manager - Selected Profile on the web site, you could set your device profile as follows for the Custom Option:
If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used.
On multiprocessors, at most use: 4 processors
On multiprocessors, use: 100.0 % of processors

Re: Multi Core

i did the change on Device profile and now it is working, but it is strange. I always changed it from my own machines.

On Device profile, you can fined 2 options, 100% or number of cores, that was showing 1, but it is only used by boinc 6.2, so if i upgrade my quad core to this boinc version, it will only run 2 cores, or i will have to create other profile just for this computer :/

Re: Multi Core

Actually the new default was I think is 16. You can put any number there, 32, 64, knock yourself out. Any device with equal or less than xx cores will use the maximum LONG AS the % of processors is also 100%, for 99% of a 4 cores will use only 3 due the round down rule.

Both the options had to stay for 5.10 clients and before and the new clients from version 6 as many continue running version 5.
