confused increasing "time to complete"

I originally posted this in the "Monster WU on the loose" thread, but it probably got lost there - my mistake, as this appears to be a different problem. I've copied it here, and (update) the run-time and time-to-complete numbers.

I'm running work unit CMD2_0002-RADIA.clustersOccur-RADIA.clustersOccur_321_3 using hcmd2 version 614. It is a repair unit - return date is 6/19 - two people errored on it (also using 6.14) ( "No state to restore. Start from the beginning.
called boinc_finish" message). There are now two of us working it again.

It's 19.6% (50.6%) done - but the completion time (10:03 (13:03)) is increasing at more-or-less the same rate as the CPU time (9:39 (24:40)).

I'm running 6.2.28 on Windows XP. I'm willing to let it run if it's got any chance to complete (I've very few errors, I'm due some wasted cycles).

Should I let it run?

At this point, it doesn't look like it will complete by deadline. My original comment on time-to-complete is obviously somewhat wrong - it must decrease at some point, but occasional observation shows it normally increasing 1 sec per second of run-time.

Re: increasing "time to complete"

Hello folacin,
This is the sort of problem work unit that the new HCMD2 software was made for. It is taking hours to reach the next position. A new descendant work unit willo have to be split off from it.

Let it run.

Re: increasing "time to complete"

After 49 hours (and 2 hours past the deadline), it completed. My original wingman is still in 'no reply' state (as I was), and two new copies are out there - hopefully one of the three will come back and validate me.

Re: increasing "time to complete"

Yes, to confirm, also from latest techs info, the first batches in this project have the tough and most interesting stuff for them to have a first look. After, the positions should become lighter, quicker to calculate. He mentioned there are 2467 batches to work through, the CMD2_nnnn number thus an indicator of project progress.

Re: increasing "time to complete"

And the 49 hour WU messed up the completion date prediction (which I know has been discussed, I'm just in a posting mood) - all of my MD work units increased from ~4 hours to ~45 hours.

Wonder how long it will take to get the estimate back down to reasonable?

Re: increasing "time to complete"

My Flu went from 6 to 25 because of this, but it only needs 10-15 short MD jobs to bring the rDCF down to normal proportions.
