I am running this on a laptop... and I would prefer that the fan not spin constantly at a high rate, as it does when cpu usage is 100%. is it at all possible to throttle back the cpu usage of the agent, and let my machine take it easy? clearly there are no such options native to this software, so if anyone can recommend a third party cpu usage throttler?
Thanks! |

I found a solution that is quite satisfactory - and best of all free. its called threadmaster, and here is the link: http://bednorz.uni2.net/anyland/threadmaster/threadmaster.htm
not the best-looking piece of software (controls through commandline and registry), but works like a charm, especially for the price. only for win2k and above, though. |

I agree. I'm running an AMD, have a system on 24/7, but won't run another work unit until the software is changed to allow us to set the CPU usage percentage.

i do have problems to with 100% cpu useage.
my p4 2.4gig runs to 76 Celcius. my p4 2.66 Hyper-Threading get 80 celsius and shuts down. i know that i have a cooling problem, but will be nice to manage it on the software way. 100% cpu useage > it's just to much for running 24 hour/7. best regards stefan |

I was worried about the same thing, hurting the CPU. The fan was running a lot. I have an IBM think pad, and finally remembered that you can set the power usage scheme. There is something on this scheme that allows you to choose the cpu speed. You can set it to either maximum, medium, slow, or very slow. When I set it to slow, the fan cut off, so it was not getting as hot. So it did make a difference. Maybe medium is enough though, I don't know.
On mine, to get to this screen, you just double click on the battery at the lower right of the screen, and the power usage screen pops up, allowing you to choose a new power usage scheme, or create a new one. Maybe your laptop has a similar feature. |
