I'd like to suggest a implementation of a linux version for console mode. It could run on background.
Why? Because many people have many servers around the world and we could have WCG running on it. I do have about 30 servers and it gets idle for about 6hrs/day in avarage. 6x30 = 180hours every day that could be used to process WCG stuff. How many other users could do the same? We could have about 1 million or more of hours in one day of more processing time. I hope somebody gets to read this and make it real. thanks! Rafael |

Many people already run BOINC on headless servers and control the operation with the boinccmd tool from the command line. Any particular Linux distro and have you checked the package manager?

[thinks for a moment], yes the boinccmd tool has many options to include attaching/detaching to a project with the login/pwd same as that you sign in at WCG. Here's a link to the manual http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd

Can you help me? It asks for a host... How can I run it? thanks! |

I've only used the tool to test a few things i.e. just an amateur on this. Host is the name of the computer as known on a network or the IP address. The manual samples:
----------------------------------------boinccmd --host 192.168.42.${num} --passwd 1234 \ think you can drop the .${num} part unless you have multiple devices running on the same IP. if you look up the account key you dont even need a password to attach, for instance --project_attach http://project_url/ a84dc0bec631cbf81e25e6e7cd9ca826; where wcg is http://worldcommunitygrid.org/

it seems to be a problem:
boinc_cmd --host 189.38.86.72 --project_attach http://worldcommunitygrid.org/ --passwd <PWD> connect: Connection refused can't connect to 189.38.86.72 The IP 189.38.86.72 is the host of my computer.. |

Which password are you using... the WCG password or the random 32 hex stored in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file?
----------------------------------------right at the start: If you run boinccmd in the same directory as the BOINC client, you don't need to supply either a host name or a password. Otherwise you need to supply (as password) the string stored in the file gui_rpc_auth.cfg in the client's data directory.
