Mobile devices need a completely different approach.
Attempts to shoehorn them into the BOINC model have not been a great success. |

I think Sekerob has made a good point. It might be possible to use smartphone computers to implement distributed-human projects. The smartphone would be used to present a problem to a human and transmit the resulting human input back to the central server. But power requirements for crunching mean that projects that need supercomputers or grids will avoid the smartphones.
We are just beginning distributed-human projects, so I had not thought of that before. Classifying galaxies probably requires a bigger screen than a phone has, but there will be some project that can use a smartphone. Lawrence |
